Broken side mirror
Hi guys,
some darn a**holes broke my driver side mirror and took out a part of the side mirror as well (see picture). I got the window replaced but held off on repairing the side mirror before I asked you what the best way to go about it is. the body shop is telling me I have to buy the whole side mirror for about $500 US. But nothing is actually wrong with my side mirror mechanism just a piece of plastic broke off. Which I couldn't find. What is the best and cheapest way for me to fix this. Thanks for any advice. Sorry to hear about situation, I feel your pain; back in the day, some dickless POS stole both of my power-folding, JDM mirrors, from my Acura Integra, which was extremely unique and highly sought-after, at the time.
I swear, I would pay triple what I loss, just to catch the degenerate, in the act.. Anyways, the M2 shares the same glass and assembly from many standard BMWs. It shouldn't be that difficult narrowing down a replacement. You have the option of purchasing the damaged parts, individually or just get a complete used unit, on eBay and just have the shop color-match the outer cover. Keep in mind, the M2's driver side mirror comes standard with a heated and electrochromatic glass; so you have to match the replacement specifically. Happy hunting.. https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_A894 . |

Agreed, use the excuse to upgrade to M2C if you end up being unable just to replace that single piece. Sometimes you gotta make lemonade

Looks like the broken part is the hinge assembly to which the mirror housing attaches. You should be able to replace just that plastic part right there. A good body shop will charge you an hour of labor plus a part of course.

No doubt.
I'm buying those mirrors this summer after I unload some annoying car parts.

...I have a little experience in this area but in my case, it was self inflected. As far as I can remember, the mirror comes in three pieces, the glass, the back cover (in primer gray), and the body...which is everything else!
I took mine apart at the time thinking I just needed a plastic piece and the housing but they don't sell it that way. I didn't need to replace back cover as it just 'popped' off which actually was a saving as not only would I have needed to get it painted LBB but I had Xpel PPF on it as well.
