Yes, quite a bit. When I first got it I did 10 l/100 km on my way home (220 km) driving very gently. Now I can get it down to 8 liter/100 km driving like that.

My average consumtion over the full 8000 km I've driven is 11 l/100 km. In the city it can be over 20 l/100 km.

If I tried hard I could get it below 10 I'm sure. But then again, if I drive in such a way the engine and the car is rendered completely useless. Could have bought a much cheaper 218d instead and saved even more fuel.

When I did my 1200 mile service after they changed all the fluids they had to hook up to computer to perform some 1200mile service update that takes off the restrictions giving you all the power available. I didn't really notice a difference in power until like a few days later.

Hm, that's pretty thirsty. Do you happen to live in the mountains ?

My rule of thumb:
  • spirited driving: each quarter of the fuel gauge represents ± 75 km (± 47 mi);
  • normal driving (including city): each quarter of the fuel gauge represents ± 100 km (± 62 mi);
  • highway cruising: each quarter of the fuel gauge represents ± 125 km (± 78 mi).

Does driving mode affect fuel consumption (comfort, sport, sport+) much?

Nope I'm in the miami area, no mountains in sight here. I do a mix of city and highway driving , mostly in sport+

I absolutely LOVED my E46 ZHP. It was really almost the perfect car. Kept it 7 years and put over 140,000 miles on it. In my M2, I just hit 1,200 miles. Averaging just under 21 mpg in mostly city driving. And I drive without any regard to conserving fuel. Pretty happy with that.

If your MPG is more than 20, you aren't driving this car the way it meant to be.

I have no problem getting 9.5-10 L/100 km (23-25mpg). Works out to 500 km (310 mi) per tank.

This is for everyday driving.

On a spirited drive it's more, quite a bit more

My on-board computer says I average 13.4L/100km (mostly city & spirited driving) on my M2.

I think it's not too bad considering I get 11L/100km on my MK6 VW Golf R (note: fuel consumption was not considered when purchasing this car )

I should note that I see no city driving really. My commute is mostly highway and no traffic. The perks of a small town

Also, damn, that golf drinks fuel!

Yes it does, but it's "tuned" for 300hp/300tq

See that's what I thought, that cars are designed to get ~300 miles / tank.

That's exactly how I felt about my E93 M3, which is why I eventually got rid of it. It wasn't about the cost, but feeling like I was always filling up, watching the needle...

During week, city and short distances most of the time, "sport" mode as soon as temp. is ok. 16l/100km. Tomorrow a trip of 300km mainly on highway. I am curious...

Well, we don't all live in London. I reset my trip computer a couple of weeks ago, and I'm at 23.4 since then. A fair amount of that was highway miles, which helps tremendously. Also, my commute is 4.5 miles each way, and a mixture of suburban and rural roads - so not much in the way of stop and go.

The tank before I reset it, I got 7 MPG. Race tracks'll do that.
