OEM clear-coat is tough, it protects the inner paint, that nails would not be able to harm and micro-scratches can be the result of anything but can be easily buffed out, with compound.. You really have to go in with something sharp to really penetrate the paint and etch it.

I wouldn't care if they did, I can't do much anyways but from personal experience, I can't blame cats for any paint damage but if someone has irrefutable proof of this, please share.
The Problem are not your hands or the nails of the cat its more the dust which is on the surface and causes the Problems.

My English Bulldog sheds all the time. It is amazing how much hair we sweep up every week. She doesn’t get to ride in the M2.

My Frenchie sprays "glitter " everywhere . I had to learn to love it.

She gets to ride in all cars but cleaning / vacuum is painful

I recall a work colleague in the 90s who had a golden retriever. Someday she left the dog inside her Renault Clio with the windows slightly opened. When she returned she noticed that most of the gear stick was gone: chewed to the bone...

75lbs of my smug looking American Saffordshire Terrier (aka Pit Bull). He does not go in my fun cars. My Mustang had cloth Recaro seats, and eve though he's never been in it, there were a ton of his white hair embedded in them. He's never been in the M2 either. But leather helps.

There are a lot of them out there, in pounds all over the US, that are desperately awaiting a master and forever home..

I used to visit the shelters just to see the cats and dogs but it broke my heart and is just too much to take in..

When the social climate improves, maybe take a drive and check some of them out

Good advice. Both of the dogs I've had over the last decade came from shelters which specialize in Bully breeds. Ton of them in the Detroit area. Both dogs have been fantastic, loving members of the family. I highly recommend this route also.

Key is to be able to pick the right temperament an energy level for your lifestyle, and focus on being a pack leader. Exercise, love and discipline training is key.

Rescued both of my dogs as well. It's a lot of work, but the payoff is worth it. As mentioned above...love, training, exercise and discipline.

Especially the love part

My English Bulldog. She sheds too much to go in the M2. (Actually her kennel doesn’t fit in the M2.)
