Exactly. It's not nostalgia - we are reminded every track weekend just how good those cars are.

Hopefully that's not what the next M2 will look like. The current gen is so much more aggressive looking

I was a bit skeptical of this article since the new 2 Series Gran Coupe is based off the FAAR platform (UKL) which would never be found on an M car. Some quick Google'n found this article which states an M2 GC (if built) would be based off the CLAR platform, same as the RWD version of the G87 which is more plausible. The CLAR platform is very promising for an M car, it's what the Z4 and Supra are based off of.

Way too early to look at renders for a car that is not hitting production until December 2022. Much can change between now and then. The insider mentioned that the G87 M2 will also have the grille but not as big as M3/M4.

It’s a render from Autocar.uk. It’s not the real thing.

These are just renderings done from the current Gran Coupe. It won't look like that.

Here's a hint of what's to come...

It heralds an all new outlook to BMW M. Engineering,Performance and Design.
Enough with the nonsense about China. Especially when the US remains the largest M market.
I can sympathise in regards to the appearance. But I know that time will be its greatest ally and some of the detractors will come to eventually love it.
SCOTT26 Does this mean there will be major styling differences between the next generation G42 220i/230i/M240i/M245i and the next generation G87 M2?
I have not seen the M2 proposals but all I can suggest is that when you look at the 4 Coupe to the M4 you can still have a slim intake underneath the grille with the 4. But the M has the grille down to the front spoiler.
The 4 takes its historic update from the E9 cars. Whereas the 2 will takes its from the 2002. Although the 2 kidney grille is not as prominent and large as it is on the 4. But uses the tall and thinner in terms of width ideas to update and give it a classic appearance.

I would never be interested in a “mild-hybrid electric boost”.

No point in renders for a car that hasn't even been spied in camo yet.

That said, if the weight and size increase, styling becomes worse, and the suspension will likely remain or become even stiffer (based on recent M reviews), and for the non-MT owners the DCT will become a ZF8, I'm not seeing much reason to upgrade from the F87.

A manual S58 with Adaptive Suspension and I'm willing to blindly drop around 65k because it's so worth it for the whole package..

I lost the bet where I predicted it would be equipped with a B58, so this new revelation certainly help justify and push my desire to upgrade.

Leipzig is likely going all-in on FWD models.

one day, maybe this virus situation will be the inflection point, but one day maybe companies and countries learn that farming out manufacturing to "low-cost labor" locations is a bad idea. Maybe.

J/k

Although if prefer my M2 to be produced in Leipzig for sentimental reasons, I'm sure much in terms of overall quality won't change; as it's a regional assembly change of venue to reduce overhead cost and tariffs.

And if it keeps the price around 60k for a fully- equipped G series M2, which is within the realm of affordability for me, I could live with the lack of bragging rights.
Plus will Mexico bring Individual Paint Options? Hopefully so

I sincerely hope that's one of the upsides of the new location move or even if they offer a frozen black option, like the color of the BatMobile, would be divine

Interesting. Hints of the M2 Hommage front maybe at the wide extremes.

No way it's looking like that render though from Autobilde.
