The M2CS is also not going to be competitive against the new GT4. My guess is that it will keep up with the last gen gt4. Comparing 2 seat racecar with high performance DD. We really shouldn't expect the M2CS to run with the gt4.

But maybe you refer to what you get / don't get as standard features for the M2 CS base price, i.e. if you don't tick any box on the options list. Closest competitor of the M2 CS will be the M4 ZCP, rather than the 718 GT4. And Porsche ? Let's face it, they are the best in business, with the highest profit per car for a reason since many years. Porsche perfected the art of sobriety of base features, combined with lavish options lists that make customers dig deeper into their wallets.

My ideal formula for the next M2:
400hp 3250 lbs with all fluids (no driver) 6MT No sunroof as an option 50/50 weight distribution Same dimensions as current F87 I'll be happy with 420hp <3400 lbs with all fluids (no driver) 6MT No sunroof 51/49 weight distribution Same dimensions as F87 What I expect 420hp >3600lbs 6MT No sunroof option 52/48 weight distribution Size somewhere between F87 and F80/F82 |

It makes sense to me what they are doing. I think most people want a quick comfortable car as they mature (want more refinement, need room for family), but still haven't let go of believing they still need a track focused car.
M3 and M4 become affordable luxury GT, but not quite as soft and refined as the 8 series. Leaving the 8 series for deeper pockets. The enthusiast that still chooses function over form gets the 2 series lineup. Smaller footprint, more nimble/fun, but fewer creature comforts. I drive a 2 seat GT. I've never used the cruise control, and think it feels too big. My interior is ultra bueno. However, I still plan to "downgrade" to the CS because I believe it will bring more enjoyment. Fun factor trumps the need for a high end interior because you don't care while having fun. The next gen M2GC will be the M3 of old. The confusion lies in the identity crisis within the current position of transition. |

Is it true that the next generation M2 will be built in Mexico?
If so, where have you seen this stated? From BMW?
Lastly, what are your thoughts on this? No more ED for M2 |

It's true, and I heard you would be able to pick up M Performance parts at Taco Bell..
J/k Although if prefer my M2 to be produced in Leipzig for sentimental reasons, I'm sure much in terms of overall quality won't change; as it's a regional assembly change of venue to reduce overhead cost and tariffs. And if it keeps the price around 60k for a fully- equipped G series M2, which is within the realm of affordability for me, I could live with the lack of bragging rights. |

M car should always come from the fatherland. It needs a made in Germany stamp for emotional and sentimental reasons, and that alone is worth for M car owner.

If BMW can manage to transfer expertise and cultivate a culture of pride in production then I don't have a problem with production in Mexico. Of course that is a big IF.
On the other hand, who here wants a car that was built in Munich during Oktoberfest |
