Best Brake Upgrade for street?
Hey guys,
I've completely cooked my stock pads and rotors... Based on what BMW is charging me to replace them I figured that I might as well swap em out for something better (especially now that I've got 20" wheels). I'm thinking of AP Racing or the OEM 2NH kit. What are y'alls thoughts for a car that is gonna be mostly street driven (hard) with a few autocrosses every now and then? Any recommendations? |

I now have full Essex AP kit wich I baught used (still not cheap) but I'd never invest in one if not for the track.

Hmm would all the added weight be worth it though?

Not knowing the condition of your rotors, but are they really done? I have my original rotors still at ~33k miles. I do switch my pads between street and track. Still have original street pads (~33k street miles) and track pads (despite ~6-8 track days on them).

According to my dealership, yes, my rotors are done for. I'll definitely verify this though before we swap them.

Also: If you're looking for a street setup, could you describe how you were driving (and for how many miles) in order to destroy the stock setup?
But I'm wondering about the motives of the dealership too... |

As PLF69 said, the stock rotors on the M2 are done when they start cracking. |

Rather than wholescale change, how about working on tweaks incremently - cheapest 1st - fluid - ATE type 200/Gulf R1000/Motul 600/660700/ Castrol SRF - pads - fresh oem pads/ds2500/oem F8x sport/mperf pads etc etc Both these will likely have a marked improvement on stock brakes for DD/fast road and even 1-2 TD's pa.
