M button default sadness

So you guys are fully aware that by default, the M2C starts in normal mode or the softest settings. That means that when i start the car, i have to push the start button and tap the M1 button to get into the mode that i want the car to start with. After owning my car for a year and a half, I'm used to it. I think it's dumb as hell and the explanation I saw on here that made the most sense was that in this is done for mpg testing and BMW can publish these numbers.
I'm fine with it, it's the biggest first world problem ever, so really who cares? However, i get into my wife's new GTI for a bagel run, i put it into sport (which like the M2CS, stiffens the suspension as well, all for a $35K car?!?), and go about my business. Get the bagels and guess what...I turn the car back on and it's still in the sport mode that i left it in.

To summarize this long and completely useless post, come on BMW, if VW can do it, for crying out loud, you should be able to as well.

Pretty sure my buddy's F10 M5 stays in the mode last selected.

I’m honestly surprised no one has found a way to code this functionality in... of all the other things that can be coded, this one seems to elude everyone. Maybe there’s a coding somewhere that just hasn’t been uncovered yet.

yeah whoever figures out how to change the default start settings will make alot of money.

essentially it would give the ability to have another M mode

Can you not code this? I know Mini’s are able to code sport mode as the default with Bimmercode, so I would assume BMWs should be able to as well?

My M235i stayed in the last selected mode. I have gotten use to starting the car and then putting it in sport. It would be nice if it just stayed in sport.

It can be coded with Bimmercode to always remember the last drive setting

On the M3/M4 platform as well?
I think this post was originally in the other sub forum.

I haven’t heard of anyone being able to do this on the F8X platform

Also for safety & liability reasons.

If the car would be in DSC OFF and next time an inexperienced driver unfamiliar with driving a powerful car drives it in the pouring rain, the chance of an accident would be significantly high if the car would resume the last driving mode. 410hp and 550Nm is a powerhouse.

To avoid that you'd have to walk through iDrive menu settings, you're offered three modes: default, M1 and M2. Push M1 or M2 another time and you're back into default mode (you can toggle). All it takes is just the push of 1 button.

The only thing that bothers me about default mode is the steering wheel mode SPORT. Wished that it was COMFORT from the get go. Most M2C drivers I know prefer COMFORT all the time. Steering wheel: I experimented with SPORT and SPORT+ but it's a bit tiring on longer stints. SPORT+ steering wheel mode is almost arm wrestling with the steering wheel compared to COMFORT.

Will the vw remember that traction control has been turned off though? My guess is it's a liability issue with some of the modes and M button having traction off or partially off.

The annoying part is that it actually starts with “sport” steering, not “comfort” so it’s not even consistent in being in its most “soft core” mode. Eco engine, tcs on and sport steering is just a weird combo.

I don't think anyone has cracked the code yet for this yet. As far as I know every BMW car is designed this way. They all default to efficient/comfort to comply with emission requirements.

Nope, not an option in my F30 or F87. Only setting that shows up is to default start in Eco Pro.

Drive mode should be a three position analog switch.

Only the OG M2 has the rocker switch. The comp has a different system similar to the M3/M4. You can store presets with the M1/M2 steering wheel buttons.

Negative, M2C set-up offers many drive combinations to suit individual driving preferences. I'l hate to be locked into just a few. Example, I don't like Sport Plus steering under any conditions.

Agreed. Quite frankly, i'd prefer even more granularity. I don't want my exhaust to be loud 95 percent of the time, but I do enjoy the throttle response in sport mode more than in eco mode.

That i don't know. I just know that the car will start in whatever mode you left it in, which is pretty sweet.

Totally with you on this one bro, and it's not the only 1st-world-problem the car has. But it is what it is. I'm still here waiting for someone to offer remote start.
