M performance steering wheel version 2

The steering wheel with the tiny TV and LED's.

i just had this installed at the dealership, they charged a couple hours, as i drive with it, I'm in love with the look, but the menus sheesh, and how do you keep it working and on all the time, i intend on reading the manual and watching some you tube how to's, but does anyone have an idiot guide of how to use it a simple few steps for daily operation, not track work necessarily...

You gotta pay a monthly subscription for the tiny tv to work. But you save a good amount when you bundle with HBO and Showtime.

I also have a tiny TV. There are a lot of features you won't use like lap times and race mode on daily basis, so from the instruction manual figure out the navigation to useful things, like 1/4 mile and RPM shift lights. The settings menu you can adjust the RPM settings so the lights flash at lower RPM levels, say 5500 or 6000. The default setting was 4500 I think, which was too low for me on the street. At the track I'll bump it up to the red line.

I'd you don't push any buttons after 10 minutes it will go back to sleep mode. It is a bit annoying if you like the RPM lights on all the time. Personally I don't use them much on the street anymore. They are fun on the track for sure and cool to show off to chicks. The redline comes quick on OG, so the lights flashing is a nice reminder sometimes. If you find a way to override the 10 minute time out please let me know.

Adding a short shift from auto solutions and an ultimate clutch pedal should complete your cockpit setup.

That would annoy me. I had the v1 electronic wheel (with half alcantara) and it never turned off, so I always left it on the split oil/water temperature display. It did require turning on each time you start the car obviously, but never turned off.

I'm thinking of having this installed at my dealer as they are giving me a new wheel under warranty due to defects. I will have to pay the difference between OEM and new wheel. Do you find it useful, or is it a pain in the ass to use?

I had one in my E92 and while it looked amazing it was annoying to have to manually turn it on each time you started the car (I think that's still how it works now). All in all, while it's very cool I decided it wasn't worthwhile since I don't track my car and I went with one of these instead:

Yeah, that would bother me after a while. What wheel is that one? How does the Alcantra hold up vs OEM wheel? Mine is being replaced under warranty and might consider it.

M Performance F8X V2.

The alcantara will wear fast if you hold it at 9 and 3 but the oem leather wheel will also wear and become glossy/smooth over time, so there's really no difference in longevity. To keep it looking new you can either buy alcantara cleaner and refresh it every few months, or you can do what I do and drive with one hand at 12/6 and keep the other one on the shift knob.

And the blue 12h marker will show signs of wear & tear rather quickly.

Had this M Performance steering wheel in my former M2 and also have one in my current M2C.

Remember that if your M2/M2C features heated steering wheel: that function won't be operational with the M Performance steering wheels as it doesn't feature heating wiring (activating the heated steering wheel button will be to no avail).

On the other hand, the optional "Driving Assistant - Lane Departure Warning" keeps functioning (buzzing/vibration whenever lane departure without using blinkers), as that module is moved over from the OG steering wheel to the M Performance steering wheel. Steering wheel airbag also stays in place, of course.
