M Performance LED wheel install issues

I purchased a Mpeformace led wheel from a F80 owner he gave me all the harnessing and wiring needed. But shops are telling me they can't promise that the race display will work because it came from a M3 is there any truth to this? Why would bmw make the wheels different just doesn't make sense to me.

Real OEM shows a different part number for the M2 and M3 so I have a suspicion that they're correct. There probably is some difference in the wiring between the two cars.

The part number I have is 32-30-2-413-015
That part number is also on the bmw instructions under F87 so it's saying it should fit but shops are telling me other wise. Not really sure what to do some people are telling me I'll have no issue so :

Have you considered going to a bmw dealership for the install and seeing what they say?

I would just try to get it installed somewhere and see what happens. If it doesn't work out you can resell it and look for another one that fits.

It is the same wiring in the FEM_BODY. The different PN is because the cf trim on m2 is not glossy.

My local dealership charged me around $300. It took him 3 hrs and he's master tech. He laughed at the instructions that said 1-1.5 hrs. It's not a common part to install tho so he had to trouble shoot. There are a shit load of wires and harnesses, including a radio style transponder plug that comes out near the glove box for automatic lap times (additional transponders to place at the track are required to actually use it).

The wheel has to connect into the ECU, which is why they say might not work. I would think it's based on engine not model. So that part may or may not be available through BMW because I have read where some of the wiring pieces are not available. Another member is trying to sell his wheel only and it is reported that some of the wiring is not available to buy. Sorry i can't confirm which pieces. And there is a lot of heresy on what works and doesn't on this part.

I'd try the parts department at a dealership sponsoring this forum. Or call some bigger dealerships in San Fran and Houston where there are a lot of M2 owners. You'll eventually find a dealership that has installed a bunch.

Hmm. The 1 to 1.5 hours install is the standard for the M Performance V2 steering wheel. A lot less complicated to install.

I believe the wheel simply reads the messages from the CAN bus, so not strictly tied to engine type, but it will need to read the RPM and other information available on the display (which should be available to any modern BMW). That being said, it's possible the CAN bus between different models could be slightly different, but for the extremely common information I wouldn't really expect any change between models.

I'm thinking of having this wheel installed as my OE M2 wheel is defective and Dealer agreed to replace it. I am considering paying for the difference between the two wheels and whatever diff in install cost. How do you like it? Is it worth the extra cost? Also did you do install or Dealer?

Any chance you could show a picture of it fitted in your F87? I loved my digital OLED wheel on my F80 and would gladly get another for the CS if it turns out the original alcantara wheel is as unpleasantly wide as some reviewers say it is. (On this latter point I have to wait another few weeks to find out once it's delivered).

I had my wheel installed at the Port.

Its been great and other than it sometimes deciding not to show RPM's it has been great. Since I also have the AK Motion Display as well I probably should have gone with the non-electronic version to save $300..

Stealership upsell is not a surprise

You're correct

Sorry for late reply never seen the notification. But by far my favorite mod I've done to my M2 it shows oil temp quarter mile time lap times and of course the shift lights. I had a shop do it I believe they charged me $250 somewhere around there

Don't have pics showing the full interior with the wheel only pic I have of the wheel. I had a Oem wrapped alcantara wheel before this one and I noticed it's a little thicker at the top because of the Race display. Feels great tho!
