I reckon the new m240 probably also faster than the comp, in those conditions maybe even than the cs?
Luckily I did not buy my car for 0-60s or red light drag racing, probably get a tesla for that. I would take the OG any day over the m240, the b58 is rapid though and the car doesn’t look terrible from the front, the back is another story. Also holy crap they are expensive, is the m2 going to start st like 70k? |

Cool beans..
I'm not surprise by these results, if the G42 performance resembles anything close to that of the M340i, then I can cosign that it is ridiculously powerful, with gobs and gobs of torque down low, minus all the fanfare of wheelspin. You have to be an absolute hooligan to even get that car to slip. BMW really outdid themselves with the next generation of vehicles. Bravo 👏🏻 |

Seems like the m3/4 price was justified since you could get stuff like carbon roof, individual color, nicer interior but now that you can get all that shit in the 2 series, I would not be surprised if the price of 2 vs 3/4 is going to be a lot closer, 63k sounds low but we will see. I guess they can start at 63 but a decent spec will be in the 70s.

Great video, big fan of these guys.
If the M240 came with a 6MT, I'd be all over it as my next car. Looking forward to what the G87 brings to the table, but considering what I paid for my OG, I think I'm going to struggle with the idea that the additional cost will be worth the upgrade. OG was such a steal at its price point.

Oops I just reposted this in the video forum... whatever the case.
One thing that standsout to me is that on a roll race the OG is not too far behind... and its down 20 hp and an auto gear box. The comp would probably blow past it... on a standstill its obvious, as we are comparing an auto awd car to a manual rwd one. In the end... its all about the feel.

What I found interesting was that before James joined the channel, Thomas did a video himself comparing the Shelby GT350 and the OG M2 and said that he'll take the GT350 over the M2.
I'm glad he got the OG M2 now because it makes me appreciate mine more now.

I actually see that the new M240i in terms of engagement (even more when RWD will be available) and overall performance is as close - if not slightly better - to a true M-car as it has ever been, with nearly identical tyres (if you go for 245/255) track times can be tremendously close.
Considering the massive gap between the old 240i F22 and the OG M2, I'd say the new platform is a big improvement, the old one had very poor performance on track with those tiny tyres and no real lsd. Fun fact: unlike the M2, the M240i has M mirrors and M bucket seats (at least here in Europe) |

At Contidrom (minor German track) the new M240i xDrive was as fast as the OG M2 and a good 2 seconds faster than the old M235i, as you can see the engine is not the key to performance. |

The M240xi isn't really beating an M2 comp anywhere outside of a launch due to awd and it still has that 400 lb penalty. Again, not a fair comparo since one is an M car and the other isn't but I would say there is still a significant difference...

If this car is that good, I bet the new M2 is going to me phenomenal. This car has bulged fenders already, I wonder if the M2 will be even wider?

I'm not surprised by the result; BMW has made a faster car (would they sell cars if they got slower?) that isn't as fun. Skip it.

I went to the BMW site and built a new '22 240i just for the heck of it. It came out to $56,495. Apparently they don't come with extra cooling capacity like the previous model. It needs to be added and costs $2,500.

I saw the m235i in black today at a dealer and I didn't like it. I looked at it for about 10 minutes trying to figure it all out.
To me BMW has always had some of the best car design, I especially like the rear of BMWs cars but the rear of the m235i is just large and disjointed- every part of this car was a miss for me. The front is busy and the hood is bulbous. The sides are high and sloped at an angle up towards the back. I'm sure it would look totally different in a different color. In the black you can't see what's going on in the front bumper which is confusing because there seems to be a lot going on design wise, you just can't see it on a black car. I thought the car looked okay in pictures but not in person, at least not in black. Last edited by workerONE; 12-08-2021 at 02:40 AM.. |
