Future serviceability of the M2 N55B30T0
A friend is mine recently blew up his 2015 F80 M3 and needed an engine swap, it got me wondering …
Given the N55B30T0 is unique to the OG M2, what would you say about the future serviceability or new engine availability ? Last edited by D22M2; 10-10-2021 at 07:31 PM.. |

I believe an automotive Co have to keep parts available for 20 years after production ends but I maybe wrong. Most of the parts are just regular N55 parts as well so I expect few if any problems for a while, but things change.

Lots of parts unique to the OG N55 but I’m more concerned about the unique internals then the stuff mount it on , OG M2 N55 gets beefed up cast iron cylinder liners, forged crankshaft/ connecting rods and some sort of unique piston rings . |

I wouldn't be worried about the piston or rods or bearings, piston rings etc because aftermarket companies will always keep making them for this platform until ICE's become completely obsolete. The only thing that would worry me is the block and maybe crank shaft.

However there are possibilities of sleeving it and that could save the motor.

Most of the time if you blow the engine it is repairable by honing the cylinders, and replacing pistons and rods depending on what goes wrong. None of this should happen if you have a good tune and look at data logs regularily. Don't want to log? Then do not tune.

It's not impossible but the question was if it was easy? Likely not, especially if you want it to be 100% integrated with fully functioning electronics, idrive etc. The coding involved would be an absolute nightmare - let alone the wiring.
