Lap timer and GoPro vids

What are u guys using nowadays to time your lap and overlay GoPro videos? I wanted to use something that has a relatively easy to use interface as I'm not quite a tech savvy. I have read a couple of old threads but thinking maybe people are using different apps now. TIA!

Harry's laptimer for ease of use. But the gopro control support is a bit sketchy. I didn't have much luck making it work on Android with my hero 7. Older gopros I guess work fine.

I now use an AIM Solo 2 DL connected to my cars canbus and match up the videos using race render when I get home. It's NOT user friendly. So if you're not tech savvy, this probably isn't a great option.

AIM does have a camera that does all of the work for you, but it's expensive, and only 720p/30fps.

I've finally upgraded to an aim solo 2dl and smartycam setup and it's a dream.

However it is a costly kit being over a grand for a used setup but not having to remember to turn it on, battle battery life, and zero editing to sync up data is a huge step forward.

If they would just come close to matching gopro quality I'd be all in. Sadly, they can't even do 1080p

The other option is the racelogic vbox hd2. But that next level expensive. (close to 3500 for the full setup)

Yeah, I thought I'd be upset at the quality, but it's enough for my needs for track analysis. I have a buddy who went for the HD2 setup and I am a little jealous of his dual camera with 1080p quality. I didn't want to make the conversion because all my data is from AIM products.

Good... but not great. Dumb me but I forgot to turn on my mics when this video was taken.

Thats actually not too bad. Heres a recent one of mine with Gopro Hero 7 and an external mic on my license plate. I messed with the gopro settings a bit and didnt get as good of video quality on this one, but audio is nice.

This one has a lot better video quality, but the audio is just straight off the gopro. Also, its from my first trackday weekend in my M2

I will be back in Michigan in 2021. Looking forward to hitting up Grattan, Gingerman and Mid O again. I still have no idea what will be my track toy when I get back home, but I hope to improve on all my PB lap times. I hope to get into 1:29s at Grattan. Best I managed in my '14 Mustang GT was 1:31.

Thanks!

When are you gunna be back? I have several events booked for this coming year, going to try to get out as much as possible.

There's plenty of M2s for sale that would love to be your next track toy

Thanks! Current plan (banning apocalypse) is end of June. Lots of pieces in play with the re-patriation, so let's hope for the best.

Hope I'm not too off topic here but was really curious about how you guys are mounting your cameras inside, without having a rollcage.

I use a suction cup windshield mount. Not the best but it does work. It seems to be noisy with rattles on bumpy roads, but on track that can't be heard.

You have a m2c which makes it a big more difficult, but I use a headrest mount from tackform.

That's exactly my "issue" or should I say tradeoff for a nice looking seat

Indeed. I thought about building an expandable bar that suction cups between the 2 rear side windows for mounting cameras, but I don't personally need one so I haven't had much motivation to work on it.
