Crazy static through speakers

Bought my 2017 M2 about 2 months ago - 40k miles. No problems at all. Drive to work today- no problem. Go out for lunch, start the car, get nearly blown out of the car by static coming through the speakers at full volume. Literally was so loud it scared the s**t out me to point where I froze up for a second. The noise continued for about a minute straight and then shut off (car still running). I pop the hood and looking around and sound starts again so I shut off the car and it continues for another 30 seconds with car off. Start the car back up and noise stars again. No warning lights on the dash or in the menu. I didn't know what else to do so I disconnected the battery for a couple minutes and after plugging it back it in no problems for the rest of the day. I scheduled an appt at local dealer for next week but since no code was thrown I'm not sure what they'll find.

did you get your windows tinted recently? Could have gotten the amp wet and caused it to short out.

or it could be the ASD.

No window tinting on the car (although that is on the future list). It was raining the last time I drove the car, which was the first time I drive the car in the rain, but then it sat in the garage from last Saturday until yesterday and it was fine on the drive to work.

Maybe the ASD is just freaking out? Good thing that I can ask dealer to check out.

If you have access to ISTA+, you can run a test plan and the Control Tree will indicate if the AMP or any of the related components are faulty.

Recently, I randomly ran a test and became aware that my left bass speaker, under the driver's seat was not working properly.

Had I not ran the test, I wouldn't of even realized I had an issue.

I've got my 2017 M2 in with the BMW dealer for this issue today. It's the HK amp that's died, even though I had the splash guard (recall item) fitted it was not wet but just failed.

I mentioned to the service team that the static was so loud it was dangerous.

I'm out of warranty but BMW have agreed to supply a new amp if I pay for fitting. A new Amp cost from BMW is an amazing £1200! So we'll worth persevering. Diagnostic and Fitting is about £220.

I collect it tomorrow so will update, I was worried the static was so loud it may have blown a tweeter.

There is only one amp. It is in the left side of the trunk.

Haaa so you think it's the amp in the trunk that needs to be replaced ?!

I thought it was just an issue with the speaker where the static noise was coming from ..

Update on this, BMW did honour the replacement Harmon Kardon amp. It's been fitted (I had to pay for the labour) and comes with a two year warranty which is just as well as it's actually £1400! Crazy price.

Shameless self-promotion here (we are at least sponsors but for anyone who is looking at having to do this out of warranty, maybe consider upgrading to our SoundstageDSP. You'll get better EVERYTHING, not just the amp, for not too much more $$ in total, and you won't have to worry about this happening again.
