How To Fix Check Engine Light From Intake?

Hey guys, I'm relatively new here so not sure how this all works. Sorry if I mess something up. Basically, I got an M2 and it's completely stock, yesterday I installed a BMS air intake and initially had no issues, later on however, I got a check engine light. I went into BimmerLink to check what it was for and under "12 Motor Electronics" I see 1 error code, "FF20E1", I looked up the code and went to full lists of the BMW codes but I haven't found anything. What is the code for? Should I be worried? I want to make sure everything is fine. I've seen others get check engine lights with the BMS intake on a stock car but they haven't said what their codes where and they just resolved the issue with a JB4. I don't want to have to get a JB4 for this because down the line I'd like to use BM3. Is everything fine and the light will just be annoying but it doesn't mean anything bad?

Go back to the stock intake.

Gotta be another solution though, right? The bms sounds so much better.

Get a speed density tune that removes the maf sensor from the equation, therefore no more maf codes. Note you'll need a real flash tune to do it right, the jb4 doesn't do mafless correctly - especially if you're in the USA as of now. The reason why is with the jb4 all it does is you disconnect the maf sensor and let the car default to speed density (this is an ECU failsafe Incase of a maf sensor failure so the car can still idle) then the kb4 just clears codes that will pop up. Essentially the jb4 doesn't so anything special it literally just clears codes and you can get the same effect just pulling the maf sensor bon a stock car. That's why I don't recommend this approach. But as of late jb4 doesn't offer code clearing in the USA anymore, all jb4s are now factory programmed to not be able to clear codes if you're in the USA. If you're outside the USA you can apply to have code clearing reenabled, if you're in the USA you must sign a waiver. Overall a flash tune is still the way to go if you want speed density operation

But from what I've seen it's common for intakes to trigger codes, some cars are more proned some are less proned. But the only intake where I don't see this occur is the CTS turbo intake due to its specially designed maf housing, so that's your second option.

How do I do the speed density tune? What do I need for it?

Just updated my previous post.

You'll either need a flash tune from a tuner who knows how to do it like twisted tuning. And I don't recommend the second option which is jb4.

Could you link me to what I need from twisted tuning? Wasn't able to find anything from them about speed density when I looked it up.

You just tell them you want a speed density tune for intake related issues. Then while making your map they'll incorporate that.

From what I understand the CTS turbo intake does not throw a code, even without tuning. Easy solution to wanting the intake noise IMO.

Yes because the cts intake has a specially deisnged maf housing that mimics the stock one so it tricks the maf sensor to seeing the same levels of air flow.

Very smart design.

Stock intake wins. Works so well it’s like it was designed by BMW specifically for the M2.

While I'd love to order the Dinan on looks alone, you're correct the stock design is clean and makes good power so there is no reason to change a thing

Yep. Other intakes can make more noise but do nothing for power.

Do these intakes come with knockoff M Performance carbon fiber exhaust tips and “smoked” tail lights?

Seems like that package deal would do well.

No, but they do have a package that comes with RGB underglow and spinners.

I'd launch that intake in the FS forums and put the stock one back in

It's a clean design and you won't have issues and I'd bet it makes more power over the BMS intake

Thanks, but I already solved this issue. Bought a CTS intake and it's amazing.

Perfect

Isn't that a closed box design?
