I've gotten wheel hop in sport+ mode but it has only been when my tires are cold, generally in the rain and with temps sub 10 Celsius.

I always equated it to the rubber just being too hard at that temperature, when the rubber is warm and the tires are supple all I get is wheel spin when traction is exceeded.

I don't know what it is, really. Now with my Winter set on, which is 3 years old, the spin is flawlessly smooth. Go figure.

It could be a rubber compound issue, I’ve noticed when the tires are near end of life and I’m guessing all that remains is the harder substrate compound the wheels just break loose and spin a lot easier.

Still hoping someone tries those bushings

I mean, having less hop with putting a few thousand miles on my new Conti's, and now no hop at all with worn Winter tires, I'm inclined to believe it is indeed tires. The reason I didn't think it was originally was because I had read of this issue with all of the M2/M3/M4 cars and with Conti's as well as Michelin's, AND in different states of wear.

I'd like to think the car is predisposed to have this hop, honestly, but only certain conditions produce it, regardless of the tire used. But as soon as I think that someone will chime in saying they have never had an issue at all.

But certainly, all of us that DO have the issue aren't imagining it.

I honestly don't know, but the sound I hear doesn't sound good on the car at all. I mean, I guess if you kept your foot in it and it just started hopping worse and worse you'd probably break something over time, but when I had it I would just let out of it immediately. It was never bad anyway, just lightly hopping and I'd let off.

I’ve been experiencing wheel hop / axle tramp in my new M2, first gear is horrible wet or dry and second gear will be ok but you can’t go easy on the throttle.
It is a lot of tyre to be turning but it’s annoying when I try to launch my car and I’m a little heavy on the pedal it will hop like crazy rather then just slip a bit.

Huh. I've never had a RWD car that wasn't wheel hop city in the rain. My old 350Z was HORRIBLE. My buddies old 2006 GTO would wheel hop in the rain really badly and of course my M2c does so as well. I've always figured this was just part of "driving in the rain without a live rear axle."

If you want wheelspin in the rain, just go sideways. I've yet to experience wheel hop during any sort of drift.

Old thread coming back to life once again…

Well I personally think Conti's are absolutely garbage so go figure

I much prefer Michelin's compound, and characteristics over anything from Continental

Ever since I a downsized my wheel setup to 18inches and running thicker tires, it solved a whole lot of issues with the m2 from wheel hopping and daily driving comfort.
