Shell 91 is the best gasoline available to Canadians. The only time I ever use the ethanol blended 94 gasoline is when I am running an aftermarket tune and knock resistance trumps quality of gas.

Petro 94 always pulls less timing than Shell 91 for me - wish we got e85 up here.

If your car is tuned it typically makes sense to go with the highest octane gasoline available for added safety factor but it varies from car to car. My STI knocked like crazy with Petro 94 but was fine with Husky 94 which is the best of the high octane fuels out west. That said on my stock Golf R I use only Shell 91.

I've run Husky 94 (the only 94 in MB as far as I know). I've also run Co-op 91. The butt dyno tells me that shell 91 is the best though, it seems to bring the engine alive more. This is both in my M4 and my X4 M40i (pretty much same engine as M2).
I've put 89 in the X4 once (when I was considering trading it in) and I did notice a huge drop in performance and on the over-runs it didn't pop and crackle as much. |
