Easy to clean wheels
I have heard that the Bi-color wheels are a pain to keep clean. I personally like them, but they won't look great if they constantly look filthy. Are the forged black wheels any better in this regard?

You referring to the 788s? Beautiful wheels, but any wheel will look filthy coated after a day or two on the M2. So while a black forged may be better, but it'll be brake dust rust color after a bit.

Even the ones they call forged black are bi color IMO. The spokes are more gunmetal, while the wheel wells are black. I too think they are the ones to go with. But ultimately any one will look equally dirty and hard to clean. I now have 3 tools/brushes to clean the 788s, and yet I can't get behind all the spokes.

BMW brake pads are notorious for tons of brake dust. After each cleaning, I spray my 788s with brake dust repellent. It helps keep them stay cleaner for longer. There are also some people who ceramic coat their wheels and that might be another option.

My new M2 is currently at the shop getting ceramic coated. I paid a little extra to get the faces/spokes of the wheels ceramic coated as well. Hopefully that helps with cleaning them!

It's not just the color, the 788's have so many nooks and crannies they are hard to keep clean. I'm not sure how much even ceramic coating will help. I only washed the 788's a couple of times before I swore I was going to get something easier to clean.

I spent quite a bit of time and effort ceramic coating mine with C5 and I don't think it has helped that much. Still need a wheel whoolie, wheel brush and micro fiber mit to get them, to where they look great. And Then, they only look good for about 50 miles. I'm starting to give up a bit. Every wash involves more time on the wheels than the rest of the car any more. I like the 788s a lot but I think I counted about 65 surfaces to clean PER WHEEL with every wash. I'm getting 763s as soon as I can afford them.
I Will say that the ceramic coating on the brake caliper has helped though. A quick brushing keeps them looking good. |

I've been trying to wash my car frequently, but this is definitely a game I cannot win. Might have to try some Brembo ceramics, but I kinda like the brake feel of oem pads.

I have researched and found that Hawk has a Ceramic pad solution as well. The front part number is HB828Z.760 and the rear is HB193Z.670. Thanks in Advance. Last edited by F87 S55; 12-20-2020 at 07:50 PM.. Reason: Added Part numbers |

I prefer the feel of the Hawks. Equal stopping power without the jerky bite at slow speeds.

They do not for the 2NH. I reached out to them and they said they don't anticipate releasing one anytime soon with covid and all.

I spend a good 20 min every weekend cleaning my 763m wheels. I can't imagine what a pain in the arse the 788s must be. I'd be looking at ceramic coat and lower dust pads.

Ended up keeping the stock pads and powdercoating the wheels bronze. Hoping that a by-product of that mod will be less visible dust, lol. |
