Armrest console rattle

Anyone have this? It makes a rattle noise as you rest or apply pressure sideways.

I'm tempted to fix it myself with a bit of insulation as opposed to taking it to BMW and having them give it a whirl.

No rattles. Mine closes like a vault. My guess is your missing a pad or bump stop or the hinge needs tightened.

Yes, maybe the same problem: Mine creaks with my arm on it when it's in the 'all the way back' position. If you move it forward it will not creak. I'm going to have it looked at on the next service appointment. Pretty sure the fix is with some felt or felt-like material.
Never had this issue in my old M240i.

My X4 creaked and dealer fixed it. The M2C started creaking yesterday but then went away. :

Yeah this seems like a straightforward fix, I rather just buy the felt and do it myself if possible.

You guys are right, it's more of a creaking noise than a rattle!

Dude, my car rattles everywhere. I'm taking it in next week for the recall and to fix what feels like the passenger seat, passenger door, & console. It's really starting to take a toll on the car, which otherwise is damn near perfect.

Taking mine in next week to fix. I currently have 2 problems that annoy the hell out of me.

1. Creaky center console/armrest
2. Clutch Pedal clicks loudly when initially pushed down

Problem is with dealers "fixing" rattles is that they cause 5 more pulling the car to bits.

Sticky felt pads, felt shims and a light oil are your friend!

Getting the dealership deal with rattles is, hands down, the worst part of dealing with BMW for me over the last 6+ years of BMW ownership. On my current car, there's a constant rattle (which is probably the A-Pillar rattle but I swear I'm hearing it further back) that I can hear on even moderately crappy streets around my dealership.

When I dropped off the car for another thing, they "failed to hear the rattle" despite giving it a real college-try with the HALF MILE they put on my car that day. It should have been enough, though, since it's loud as crap immediately upon turning right out of the parking lot.

As soon as I figure out where it's actually coming from, I'll fix it myself. Across my 4 BMW's, I've gotten them to fix exactly one rattle. On my second F30, I felt taped every rattle that I knew it would have before it could actually rattle.

At times I wonder if the problem with getting them to deal with rattles is that the technicians don't take hearing protection on the job seriously and most of them are actually hearing-impaired.

My Porsche 911 wasn’t any better. In fact my last 3 911’s had their own personal noises. Moonroof track would rattle under certain conditions. The front right dash had a thump rattle over bumps and when it was cold both doors at the window would creak over bumps. Speaker rattles with Porsche are chronic.
So far my M2C has been rock solid silent even over railroad tracks. Most rattles you can and should try to fix on your own. Dash rattles you forget about as pulling the dash down for a rattle is not worth other issues it could make.

My sports cars are my babies and I don’t like dealers touching them any more than necessary servicing. My dealer didn’t even wash my M2C when they got it. I have a standing order not to touch any of my new BMW’s as I do the detailing work inside and out.

This.

I may look at trying to solve this myself with some padding but we'll see.

I pulled everything apart, applied silicone to all plastic surfaces that mate, and positioned my passenger seat all the way back and fairly reclined...
Completely solved my noisy center console.

Still makes sound, but it's the acceptable kind👍🏼

The vast majority of the sounds I found actually come from the rear ac vent assembly.

No rattles here either. Maybe the OP's armrest rattle is just a fluke?

If BMW have released a fix on TIS then it must be a widespread problem.

Mines ok though...

My armrest makes the squeak as well when it's pushed fully back and when pressure or g-forces make it move around. Very annoying.

Pulling it forward silences it but that's not an ideal solution. I'll record a video so people can hear
