M2C vs. LCI - closer in price
I've been checking prices for a few weeks and OG M2's (esp LCI's) seem to be rock solid and not losing value. Many LCI's still around $44-48k while some M2C's are now getting into low 50's and one even advertised for $49k. I figure the really cheap ones are cheap for a reason but there are many for around $54k so the difference between them is now well under the $10k it used to be.
Presumably it's supply vs demand, and I'm battling between going for an OG M2 now vs. waiting until the M2C prices are within reach (my budget is around $48k max) I've been trawling through the comparison threads and am not looking to start another one here as both are clearly great cars (especially need to ignore the videos that keep romanticizing how much better the M2C feels - I've heard enough from all of you to know the difference isn't that great especially the handling). I'm just torn as the price jump to an M2C is getting smaller... is anyone else seeing the same? |

I've been following since end of 2019 as well. I'm pulling the trigger on a 2018 LCI 6MT w/ under 8k miles for $47k. Over 2 years of warranty remain. I've spent alot of time debating with myself on if it would be worth it to just buy a new 2020 M2C if I could get one in the mid 50s...then I decided I could enjoy the LCI and the N55 exhaust notes for a couple of years, trade it in, and then enjoy an M2C. Then I get to experience the best of both worlds But it really depends which car you prefer, what you value most (extra warranty, exhaust note differences, cosmetics, etc), and how long you plan to keep the car. Either way, there is no wrong answer as long as you end up with a car that you enjoy driving. Would love to know what you end up deciding...

I think in your case it might be good to wait a bit. I'm in the SF Bay Area and used M2C prices are only a thousand or two below MSRP for a new one. And there is only 1 on the used market right now. The Standard M2 is going for around the same as youve been seeing. Honestly you cant go wrong with either car.

Thanks both. This really helps. I need to keep in mind that an LCI is still only a 2 year old car. With so much focus on the M2C it feels like the OG is an old model but almost all M2s are still in factory warranty... I guess it'll come down to finding the right car at the right price and I really don't want to exceed my budget plus I suspect my current ride is depreciating faster than the M2 so sooner the better (or so I'm telling myself )...
cheers, Pete. |

I was at Fremont Toyota a few months ago looking at the new SUpra and the Hakone 86. The Supra had a 15k markup (and then sold literally that same weekend). The Hakone 86 had a 5k markup and sold the week after. This is in a market where if the person had literally just gone the next town over they would find the same Supra for MSRP with no markup. But people who have excessive money are lazy. It just sucks that the market for the M2 is soooo different. Theres almost no cars sitting for more than a few months and most dealerships only have 1. |

I believe the 2018 prices are so strong, because it was a 1 year offering, and everyone wants one (when shopping for the OG). If I hadn't gotten such a good deal on my Comp, I was going to buy an LCI, no questions asked. Most other people in the used car market are the same, if they're going to get an OG, it has to be the LCI. And while the 2018s sold the best out of all the OG's, it was only ~2800 total for the US & Canada, and almost a 50/50 split for MT and DCT. Not a common car... A little over 9 M2's per 1,000,000 people in the US.

I share the same belief, but it's confirmation bias because I wanted an OG and it had to be a 2018 BSM.

apparently no way to reach the seller and BaT discourage relisting so will be curious to see if the car pops up somewhere else. Appreciate this didn't make the reserve price but the owner could probably trade it back to the Portland dealership for 42-43k and given the low mileage retail it for around 47-48k... (if the owner is magically reading this please PM me before you trade it! )
