Keeping my f87 m2

After looking at the new m235i gran coupe, I am so glad I bought the last holy m2. My f87 m2 is a keeper. I just can't see it why BMW did this way with the 2 series.

I agree that the M2 is a keeper. But the M235i gran coupe will just be one option in the two series. I am sure there will be a G series M2.

Eye of the beholder. Said unfortunate 2 GC owner may have growing kids who need to be able to get in and out of the back seat without Dad having to get out first. Or maybe the warranty is running out on the M2, and he doesn't want to take a risk. Or maybe he's just had enough of driving the best car made, and wants to settle.

Or maybe he hurt his foot and can't drive a stick. Lots of possible reasons beside just going blind and losing all judgement and taste.

LOL

Exactly, that's why they made the M3. I can't comment since haven't driven the 2 Gran Coupe ... We'll see...

Edit: I did some checking, the M3 is 6" longer, 3" wider and 110 lbs heavier than the M2 Gran Coupe so there is a case for the GC...but that 4 banger!

Ugh. I thought maybe it was available with the 6.

I've had several service loaners with the 4 pot, and I have to admit that it makes impressive horsepower from 2 liters and there's not much lag and it's really quite acceptable for a DD for most people.

But I can't, I just can't. The only thing better than an inline 6 is a V12, and those are typically too heavy to give you any pretense of sporty handling.

I will settle for a nice V8 though. But four? No thanks.

E90 m3, get it while you can.

Or settle for Audi RS3, it's the right size.

M235i is a totally different line of car.

There's a whole new G series RWD car around the corner and a G87 M2 to top that series.

Hot water heater.

Jumbo shrimp.

This reminds me once when I sold something on Craigslist to some guy who was also a Bimmerfile, and he met me at work in the parking lot. At the time I had my 640 Gran Coupé and he said something like "nice E63". I said thanks, it's an F06. He kept referring to it as the E63, not realizing that it had four doors.

Sometimes we try so hard to appear smart and clever that we just end up looking stupid.

I feel the very same.

I do like the M2C front end a tiny bit better than my OG's, but it's not a deal breaker, and I'm much happier with the engine and wheels I got.

I just don't understand how BMW could take something so beautiful and make it look so damn ugly like they did with the new 2. I know all of this is in the eye of the beholder, but when 98% of the beholders are going WTF? I mean, they made a mistake, simple as that.

The BMW design chief ought to be sacked. The new m235i GC ugliness pales in comparison to the monstrosity of the g8x.. what are they thinking?

In terms of 4 pots: I have no specific aversion to them if the whole package is cohesive and light weight - take the original E30 M3, Silvia s15, S2000 even EVO IX for examples - no lacking of 'soul' there...

My only guess is the Chinese market? Gotta appease that market with big gaudy grilles and "sporty intentions", but Chinese market typically don't want compromised interior space so you end up designing something with a giant greenhouse and awkward proportions.

Doesn't matter though, just increase the badge diameter 1.5" and ship it. They'll eat it up.

I have liked what I've see of the 2GC thus far. I've driven the front drive platform with xdrive on the X1 and X2 and think they are great for DDs. This 2GC is not an M2 replacement or competition. I think they'll be great for those that want a sporty DD.

I just wish we got the M135i hatch here in the states. Talk about a killer DD...

But to keep it somewhat on topic, I agree with OP. Given how the new grilles have been looking on the new gen BMW stuff, and the leaked M3/4 grille, the M2 will age very very well.

The GC has nothing to do with the current 2 series other than the name. It's based on the new 1 series (and Mini). That's why it looks so goofy.

it may suit him better but I will never believe that thing drives better than the M2. Sure the suspension and chassis is more compliant for daily driving - but the poor man will have an empty feeling there! Praying for him!

All this talking about the new grills reminds me of the Bengal buts on the 5 and 7 series.
