A friend and co-worker had an M235i. On a trip I met up with him after I had the M2 and gave him some wheel time. He REALLY liked the M2 compared to his car.

More pics on this thread.

He eventually bought an M3.......

I feel exactly the same way. Even if the M2 were clearly slower, I'd still have purchased it over the 235.

Same with my Exige. My particular year (2006), it was literally the same car as an Elise, just a different (heavier) body, but there was no way I was buying an Elise. Didn't even consider it.

I bought my M235 in March of 2014, before the M2 was even announced. I definitely wanted the M2 once I realized the limitations of tire sizing on the narrower body. When money was factored in there was zero chance I would take the crushing depreciation to flip into something slightly better with the same engine. Both are great cars and I might have waited if I knew the M2 was only a year away, but I find it mostly a lateral move once you do a few bolt-ons and the LSD.

I strongly disagree. I too owned a March delivery of M235i. I had it for four years so I am extremely familiar with the car. I had my M235i in for a service when my sales advisor saw me and said they had an M2 that the orderer walked away from and I should take for a test drive. They handling and power was significantly different. I ended up buying the M2 that day. One of the best decisions I have made.

I agree that the M2 chassis feels completely different to the M235i chassis. There are a few reasons to get the M240i. If you want a convertible or need 4 wheel drive then the M240i with bigger wheels and tires is the best option.

Anyone notice that in the video you cant see the gauges in the M2? I've noticed that since going from my M235i to my M2, I can't really every see the gauges. Must be the grey color.

2016 M235i to 2016 M2.

Totally agree.

LOVED my M235i, still arguably the better daily. Such an epic all-arounder. The M2 is more exciting though, simply put. In every way. Braking, totally flat cornering, incredibly grip, harder & more fun to launch off the line thanks to torque bump. Steering feel & precision is vastly better too, something I didnt expect.
The only areas I'm somewhat disappointed: (let me clear, NOT deal-breakers. I LOVE the M2)
1. ride balance is good, not great in M2. Needed an adjustable suspension option. Can be quite firm at times but still rather good overall.
2. M2 is LOUD at highway speeds. Not engine nor exhaust. Its the Road noise on anything less than brand new streets that can be deafening. I can live with it though. Just a consideration.
3. HK stereo truly sucks so bad it doesnt deserve the HK branding (This is the biggest miss for me on the M2)
4. Tried a 2018 and DCT felt MUCH MUCH better than in my 2016. Dont know what changed but reaction to prodding the gas, etc., shift algorithms, etc all felt much crisper. (maybe the clutches in my 2016 DCT getting worn?)
5. Weight. At 300lbs lighter this M2 would be a supercar slayer. How the M2 weighs more than an M3, 911, new Supra, etc., is beyond me.

Still, nothing other than perhaps a C7 Corvette offers this much thrill for the dollar, not even my former base 911 & Cayman. And the C7 is way less practical as a daily.

Went from 2014 M235i to 2019 M2C. Just confirming what everyone else is saying. Its a really nice compromise between daily driver and a perfromance car.

I miss:
ZF gearbox for daily driving.
Adaptive suspension.
Exhaust note

What I like more with M2C
Stiffer and more direct chassi
That low end S55 torque
LSD

Havent driven the OG M2 but I couldn´t(didnt want really) for what felt like wider arches, LSD and DCT gearbox, M2 "just" being a uprated N55 the M235 was the economic choice. And sence BMW has a racing car built on the N55 there where tons of upgrades you could stiffen the M235 and buy aftermarket LSD.

Then I got a better payed job so upgrade was in place, it was tough choices but in the end, factory warrenty, interrior and the fact that I got a good deal on M2C made it simple.

I was hoping on a C8 vette but I had no pricing in my country and now a dealer wants 150k$ for a Z51 C8 vette :/

Its on. I never messed with it. But it isnt the engine noise that bothers me. Its the incredible amount of tire roar on less than perfectly new roads. It can be deafening and the weak HK system isn't well matched to the increase in ambient noise.

Do yourself a favor, and bypass the ASD, either with a harness or via coding. It's crazy how loud and obtrusive the fake noise is... While you're waiting on the harness (or OBD2 dongle) to come in, disconnect your center speaker behind the iDrive screen. It will help the HK system not sound so crappy. Lastly, I HIGHLY suggest getting the supplemental door seals from the base 2 series. Cuts down on a ton of the tire and road noise from the front. These 3 things will help tremendously with noise isolation in the cabin, and make it a much nicer place to sit in.

Where can I get these? Part #? Do I need anything additionally re: these seals to put them in the M2?

Part Number
51-48-7-300-693 (Left)
51-48-7-300-694 (Right)

And no, nothing else needed. They simply slide between the front fenders and the chassis (?? whatever you call where the door connects). Just a foam piece, easy to install. Less than 5 minutes per side.

2 threads for install and reading below.

Planning to go from my 2014 M235i to a 2021 M2C sometime mid next year! The M235i still brings me a lot of joy, so we'll see..

I think the 240/235 versus M2 debate is not just about performance. For me personally, having owned a 3 series, and then a 5 series, I wouldn't get into any 2 series just because that would be a downgrade as a daily driver. However, the M2C to me is a car that is one of the best M cars on the road, and a fantastic value where I dont need spend $100k to get my sports car thrills. This car checks the boxes for M car, looks, handling, power, and fun to drive. And if I'm really tired to throwing the M2 around, I can just jump in another car

Towson. Flew in to Baltimore and was picked up by the salesman. Spent 2 days touring DC, and then drove back to Charlotte.

Love My M235i but....

I am new to the BMW car. Had the two wheel version of the German machines and loved them. I am done with cycles and now am late in life (63) and late to the car game. I bought a M235i as my first BMW car. It is a fine car and really enjoy driving the Car. It is my fun car with only getting out of the garage on special short trips. It is a 2016 and bone stock. I read on here all about the M2 and it is a beautiful machine in my mind. I was considering a new M240 but then was looking at the M2 comp. I have read many threads about the car but these are my questions from all you guys that have the experience that I am seeking.
I am not going to track the M2 so will I notice anything on the normal road?
$ 40k will be the upgrade difference ? Would you do that with the way I am driving.
What have you done or would have done to the m235 (upgrades) that would make my car more fulfilling ?
I love the looks of the 2020 M2 comp orange ! How do I get over that ?
They have one in stock at a dealer here in Michigan and I am afraid to go look at it.
I thank anyone who is willing to offer constructive advice or comments.

Hap
