Just orders the new pure pipe and have a old pure type 1 also. Will measure as soon as the new arrives.

Pure's new one piece inlet pipe looks promising, I'm in.

Below I quote Peter from PureTurbo:

Quote:
Hi Sean,

We posted about the pipe on our EU instagram and FB accounts earlier this week.

1) aluminum
2) fits stock and all other hybrid turbos too
3) its same as old short inlet. Difference is this is full pipe which will flow better because the cut old with clamp you get some backpressure where small pipe sits in plastic pipe.

Kind regards,
Peter

Hi Pet,

Just noticed this new inlet pipe for F series N55 shows up on the Pure Website. It seems to be a quiet release and there is not much info about it.

https://pureturbos.eu/n55-f-series-full-inlet-pipe.html

I’m asking the following questions if you don’t mind, as apparently I’m interested to buy:
1) I can’t tell the material from the pictures. Aluminum machining or plastic injection?

2) It says “The inlet is perfectly matched with the Pure Stage 2 compressor housing opening and is compatible with stock intake or aftermarket intake systems.” Does it fit stock or the none-Pure hybrid turbo?

3) How is the new inlet diameter compared to old one, and the stock one? If you don’t have the accurate measurement – is it larger or smaller or the same as the old one?

Makes me feel better about my one piece aluminum FTP pipe. Now we need some side by side measurements!

I replaced it at the time (along with all the other FTP pipes) when I did the Dinan Turbo, so no way to tell. I replaced all the pipes more for reliability, vs performance.

Altho, I’ve heard a larger pipe helps with exhaust gas temps, which seems like an issue for our motor.

Just got the pure inlet. Same measurements as their other tube at the turbo.
Feels like a very professional product, high quality and the transition from tick to thin pipe is really well done to not get any edges.

Nice.

It’s $100 more than the FTP pipe, so will be interesting to hear the measurement differences.

I have the insert style pipe. Prior to installation I was already planning on smoothing the transition at the end of the aluminum pipe by beveling the inside of the end of the pipe. I never liked that step right there.

So from my N54 days the relocation inlets opened up a lot of power, torque, and decreased turbo lag. Now this is nothing like that but it sure will help the turbo work more efficiently! Nobody likes breathing through a plastic straw or drinking through one apparently

Gents,

This piece is ridiculously easy to make yourself if you enjoy working on your sled.

Total investment, $2.00

How did you get it to mount and stay in place?

I used 2 of the rubber isolators (I had an extra intake tube to rob for the extra isolator) one in the compressor inlet to secure aluminum pipe and one on the other end of the aluminum pipe and epoxied it into cut back factory plastic inlet tube, make sense? It replicates factory tube and will still pull out of compressor inlet...I didn't epoxy that side

Good work.

Did you get a chance to measure/compare IDs of FTP inlet pipe to stock Inlet pipe where it mates to the turbo ?

I don't remember exact measurements but there is a serious neck down at end of plastic intake tube where it mates to compressor inlet, like a 3-5mm step that I eliminated when I cut plastic intake tube back. The aluminum tube is the exact same diameter as compressor wheel now, cleaning and smoothing flow into compressor as you can see in the pictures of compressor wheel (looking down through aluminum tube).

I assume yr picture above is just to show FTP pipe ID is larger than comp wheel & w/o plastic sleeve fitted, hence why inlet pipe bore is eccentric to comp wheel housing ?

That pic is looking down aluminum pipe prior to pushing it in and it obviously wasn't lined up

The large picture shows pipe seated in compressor housing

That's what I was hoping you'd say.
