M2C ED on 8/28 - Proposed Itinerary (thoughts?)
Convinced the wife I could get the car and she could get a nice EU road trip so this itinerary hopes to please the both of us. We think France, Spain, and Germany are very accessible so we are choosing to save those areas for later with the family. Looking for thoughts on the following (other than the obvious "that's a pretty busy schedule"):
8/26 9pm fly out of ORD to MUC 8/27 2pm settle in to Munich and relax for the afternoon by walking the city 8/28 8am Welt check-in 9:20am car delivery. Do the museum tour then head to Hallstatt Austria (a little driving through lower Austrian mountain region) 8/29 early afternoon head to Vienna 8/30 spend the day in Vienna 8/31 leave Vienna early for Prague 9/1 spend the day in Prague 9/2 leave prague late for Frankfurt 9/3 break in service at dealer in Frankfurt and TF at Nordschleife 9/4 drop off car early and take pm flight back to ORD Definitely not a ton of time for relaxing but most of these routes are not too taxing. Prague is a must for wife and Nordschleife is a must for me. Budapest could be squeezed in if we took out Hallstatt or Vienna but I'm looking for a reason to dip down towards Austria alps and catch some scenery. Any thoughts on the above based on experience? Thanks |

See if there's a public track day at Spa when you go to the Ring, Spa is way more fun than the Ring. Frankfurt is pretty boring IMO, mostly a financial district. If you like German watches go to Sinn's factory in Frankfurt. Otherwise I'd go to Stuttgart instead of Frankfurt.

Spa does not have a public track day during our trip. Thanks for your input. |

After a closer look at tour times, we may be able to squeeze this in before heading to Hallstatt. My wife enjoys cars but there is only so much I can subject her to before she short-circuits. This trip will be book-ended by car related things (pickup etc on 28th and 'ring at the end). The rest she will want to enjoy as her 40th birthday trip without hearing too much more about cars.
I will look into maximizing the day a bit more in Munich.....thanks for your input! |

That's a solid plan. Definitely do the factory tour. Literally the best part of the delivery experience and you don't have to be a car enthusiast to enjoy it. The process is super cool.

I did. They had a HS/blue/Exec/DCT/no moonroof on the lot and I stopped by with my helmet to see how I fit (6'4") just for grins (was seriously interested but not needing another car). I fit OK and took it for a 5 mile test drive. I was hooked but the dealer didn't have 2020 allocations yet. I sent out some feelers to about four other Chicagoland dealers. A couple dealers had wait lists and none wanted to do ED with 5% discount.
A couple days later I received a call from the dealer I test drove with saying they just traded one of their M5Cs for an M2C build slot and asked if I wanted it. I stopped by to put a few bucks down on it and placed the order. ED was required to get the wife over the hump. I'm not complaining! |
