BMW M2 Coupe Suspension Photos at Brussels Auto Salon 2016
This topic follows my earlier topic with an initial impression and includes all the interior photos I made of the BMW M2 Coupe on display at the Brussel Auto Salon; http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1214282
These photos are tricky! I will mention what is what... The first series photos attached to this post show the LEFT REAR SUSPENSION! I tried my best to get all the parts in the shot but it was not easy laying on the floor under a car making photos without people asking themselves W T F is that guy doing... Any questions drop them in the comments below... |

Pre-production front struts I take it? Or is BMW doing a multi-part unit now, with an AL spring perch, etc.?
Also, rear subframe almost looks hard-mounted to the unibody...

After that, you'd have to add wheels spacers or wheels with a higher offset.

So 265/285 max with additional camber but without rolling the fenders?

Yes, AL spring perches.. Rear subframe is hard mounted in the M4 correct? It's the Same piece .. The price drop in the M2 from the M4 is directly due to the following. No CF ROOF less expensive motor Less expensive interior Lower quality seats No adaptive suspension No Individual BMW has spread the costs of suspension, Transmission, and nearly all drivetrain costs across both models including the wheels and tires. |

Predefined package(d) (rather loaded) = less choice for the customer to personalize = more efficiency at the factory = lower production cost. Also: M3 = cash cow. M2 profits and publicity may be less, percentage wise (production cost versus MSRP).

BMW marketing says " it's purist " while BMW AG provides " Hobson's choice " and BMW manufacturing gets to minimize delays while making this vehicle. That sounds like a very high demand for efficiency. To me that means supply will be very limited and likely not much greater production than the 1M. At this point I can't imagine the American market getting more than 900 -1000 M2 in a year. |

However, Several other markets essentially also only get DCT and paint color as options. Since the US market will get a fair number of cars, I wonder if each markets option selection is reflected in manufacturing time ? If the US gets 1000 versus the UK getting 400.. As Artemis states.. Pre-prepared is "fresher" and " faster " than items with many ala carte items. |

The way the factory is setup options shouldn't matter when it comes to production time of a single car. It might be easier to calculate logistics and ordering of new parts etc but actual production time is not impacted as all these options are exchangeable items (some are just coded and not even actual physical items). There is no added time to install these items over the other parts, it is just a matter of selecting the right item for the specific car and that is automated. |
