M2 m performance rear diffuser cloudy carbon
Hi, was washing my car today and noticed patches of my m performance rear diffuser are starting to go cloudy/milky beneath the clear coat. Anyone else had similar problem or got any deas on how to get rid of it?
Annoyingly car is just out of 3 year warranty otherwise would push for a replacement with bmw |

Yeah its genuine, was on the car when I brought it from a bmw dealer but have the original invoice from bmw for the supply and installation.
I've have the car for 1 year, but it's been on the car for just over 3 years. Its coated with gtechniq exo. Any ideas? |

It almost looks like the carbon is separating from the resin internally or there is movement and there is stress in that area that's stretching the resin. Either way it seems like a defect to have BMW address.

Thanks, do you think I'll have any luck with bmw to sort this? It's outside the 3 year manufacturer warranty but actually like a week within the 12 month bmw used car warranty. Not sure exactly what exclusions the used car warranty has if I'm honest. Im in the uk if that makes any difference

I would argue that if you have a bumper to bumper warranty that includes paint defects etc, then this would fall under that. I would also think BMW might want to replace this part as a courtesy to their brand. This is assuming it's a factory defect.

BMW warranty is four years on the M2. If the part was port installed it should be covered by the four year warranty.

Thanks I'll give it a go.
We only get 3 year warranty in the uk unfortunately, but its still just within the 12 month approved used car bmw warranty so I'll try and argue it under that as it doesnt specifically say it excludes paint deffects or anything |

I can't say I've seen that before. It does look like the resin is showing through but I'm surprised that the resin is white in the first place. I think it's pretty unusual so maybe BMW will be interested in investigating what's going on with it. Good luck with the dealer!

I'd take it in. Worst they can do is deny the claim.
If you have a good dealership they may push it through warranty anyways. |

Noticed a couple of weeks ago that thought it was a bit dull in patches but didn't think much of it at the time thought it was just some surface contamination, but obviously got a lot worse since then.
Pretty sure no one has hit it as no cracks or marks. I'm taking it to dealer tomorrow so hopefully they will sort it |

This is normal for any sort of carbon fiber product. Its the product of sun damage on the clearcoat. There are products that can help reduce damage like what you are putting on, but as you said it was on the car for 2 years prior before you owned the car. The previous owned probaly didnt think to protect it from sun damage.

So, took it in to the dealer who had a look and couldn't work out what was causing it and hadn't seen anything similar before. No stone chips or cracks so not water ingress, so they took some photos to see what they could do.
They got back to me today and have had it approved by bmw to replace On a separate note, also confirmed definitely not morphing in to an m4! |
