I think they can but people don't want to yank their ECU's out and deal with it.

Remember most of these so called generic "tuners" or "tuning shops" are just product re-sellers and often not specialist in much at all (except talking BS mostly).

Using BM3 is easy, but bench flashing is a few levels up from that and most shops dont have the time or equipment expertise to get into that.

No need if you take your car to a place that will "bench" flash, it can be done in situ, but you need to find somewhere first....

Perhaps across the pond is a figure of speech, but not as far as across the Atlantic. Shipping from Ontario (PTF home base) to me in Eastern TN was only two days via DHL. Anyone that’s considering just make certain all the documents are in order. No need to be held up by customs needlessly.

How does bench flash work if you don't need to remove the ECU? Do they plug into the obd2 port to unlock the ECU and flash it?

When bench flashing, the tuner connects its device cable directly to the selected ECU connector pins and apply a backdoor in Tricore processor to read and write the selected areas.

You don't have to remove it to access the pins?

Look at the picture in post 668 above.

The term "bench flash" just means a direct connection to the ECU while it's disconnected from the car.

Of course if you want to post the ECU then you need to remove it, but if you take the car to the tuner then they can just unplug the ECU connectors and directly connect that way.

Good questions LOL. Flashed the new updates for stage 2 93 today. Not sure if its my mind but it feels like it picked up some torque downstairs. There is a difference in burble sound which is hard to explain even with the same settings as before,... I like it. Not sure why but the gts roar didn't work for me, will attempt tomorrow..

GTS roar sounds like its less of a roar now but still more than stock to me on this last update.

I have been noticing some throttle inconsistencies but only under the following conditions:
Sport Plus
Second gear (6MT)
When applying 50% throttle between 4,000 and 6,000 RPMs

Anyone else experiencing this?

Otherwise, the version 9.0 maps are very smooth and powerful.

Heads up:
Once you flash one of the new tunes with the extra cooling feature and select extra cooling, you won't be able to turn it off and have the same cooling behavior. It will either be all sport modes extra cooling or all sport modes normal. Extra cooling in just Sport+ won't work. If you flash the stock tune then all is as it was with just Sport+ having extra cooling. Flashing back to a tune with the cooling feature will make sport modes be all cooling or all normal again.

Anyone else have these oscillations on Sport+ around 5,000 RPMs at half throttle?

I went back to the old Stage 1 93 Octane Version 8.7 and the 50% partial "throttle oscillation" around 5K RPMs in Sport+ went away completely.

However, Version 8.7 is not as smooth at lower RPMs as Version 9.0 which seems to have an improved torque delivery curve.

Hopefully PTF can address this on Version 9.1 since it would make the tune just about perfect.

Don't get me wrong, both Stage 1 Versions (8.7 and 9.0) are worlds apart from stock and easily the best upgrade you can do to these cars.

Even the stock software power delivery is a bit jerky on Sport+ and the folks at PTF will continue to improve the tune and add new features.

The BM3 platform turns this car into an absolutely monster!
