Been waiting for some good news on this. Might as well get a JB4. Had one on my M4 and the stage 1 was pretty easy to get on/off and gave a nice boost in power, never caused any issues.

They are not being very transparent at all with their progress. From a social media perspective, they seem entirely focused on the new Z4/Supra and X# platforms, and seem to be content with bench tuning the latest M2C revision.

It would be nice if someone from PTF would jump into this thread and shed some light on their progress.
Not surprised at all, they follow the market and devote their efforts to the development of new platforms, the future is the Gxx platform, not a few Fxx with the latest DME near the end of production, most of S55s (<2019) work fine with BM3.

A couple hours of your time and you can remove your DME. I sent mine to PTF for unlocking. Grew very tired of waiting for the work around. So glad I made that decision. I knew what I was missing as I previously had BM3. Forced dealer visit to repair a faulty nav screen got me the new encryption that blocked flashing through the OBD.

The way I looked at it was I had 3 choices. Remain stock. Go with JB4 or another Piggyback. Or, remove and unlock the DME. Yes it’s some work. The hardest part of the entire process was unplugging the DME. Several instruction videos online.

So, was it worth it? On the fence about tuning, I think my DME has an older version that allows OBD flash.

My car was built in June 2019, I guess I would not be able to flash unless I have the DME unlocked.

Absolutely worth it! I’m a old gear head. To approach the kind of gains that’s available with just a flash is simply amazing. F/I cars are so easy to get a big bump in power. On a normally aspirated engine, the same gains would require the heads to be reworked, upgrade to valve train, camshaft, fuel system etc.

If you have the older version DME that’s flashable through the OBD, it’s so so easy. One of the things that justifies the increase to me is the M2C is slightly held back by the motherland to protect the hierarchy. The M3 & M4 being the flagship and much more expensive can’t be dethroned by the entry level M2c. So the M2c is weaker especially from 5k up. This is easily fixable with BM3

I’m in Knoxville TN. 2 day shipping to Ontario was $55 including insurance for $2600 to cover the replacement if lost or damaged. It was my first time shipping anything across the boarder, and my pkg was held at customs. My fault as I didn’t know the procedure. Lady from fed ex called me and sent the proper paperwork.

Once that was done, (all online) customs released it and then FedEx delivered. Whole thing even with the mix up there and back was 13 days. There was no fee for PTF to unlock , just the normal fee of $595. The unlock process only takes them minutes. Also, they don’t physically open the DME to unlock. The shipping from Ontario to Tennessee was only 2 days. Lesson here is to have the proper paperwork done up front. PTF returned it via DHL, so there’s that.

We have all been spoiled with the OBDII unlocking feature. It wasn't very long ago that all flash tunes requires removal of the DME.

Mine was built in March, and it was locked. So 100% chance you are locked as well.

Can you link the videos? I found 2, one was a time lapse with absolutely zero useful information. The other was useful up until they removed the charge cooler, then it was all guess work, as they didn't move their camera, and every single thing under the cooler was off camera.

Unfortunately, none of the videos are great. I just googled BMW S55 ECU removal. Also It may help to look at M3 & M4 forums. Once the charge cooler is tilted back, a lot of the unplugging and getting cables out of the way just doesn’t show up on video. Get a good light, make sure the engine has cooled down, and take your time.

Also, when unhooking different electrical connections modern autos are helpful as usually, you just can’t plug them up wrong. They won’t fit. Each connection is married to one connector. Once I got started it went well. Again, the hardest part for me was unplugging the DME fasteners. It’s not hard, do NOT force anything. Once you see how it works it’s very easy. Having some help even if it’s to hold the light is beneficial.

One of the videos I viewed auctully unhooked and removed the charge cooler. I didn’t do this. So no coolant leaked out. Not even a spoonful. One video makes a big deal out of not kinking the hoses to the charge cooler. You can limit the “Kink” but it’s bound to fold over a bit. After I got the intake off I folded the charge cooler back close to it’s original position. No sense in it remaining out of its normal place.

I feel lucky to have a "jailbroken" m2c. Hope they resolve this soon, even just getting the CS tune is a nice upgrade.

I feel the opposite as you. Hehe
This car is my only transportation. I can't afford to have no car for 2 weeks while I wait for the ECU to be shipped across the country.

I've heard 😉 that the Stage 1 ACN91 puts the CS tune to shame. It is not just about peak power, it adjusts the timing for the low grade CA 91 gas and has a smoother power delivery. Win win.

Here is BMW TIS for DME removal, shows whats involved if you do it the "factory" way...

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...its/1VnXyRoXvu

Definitely don't disconnect the chargecooler water circuit when you see how complicated it is to re-fill and bleed that system.....

I put the GTS tune on at the weekend, can't really tell any difference from CS, but we'll see. Maybe a little more up top, but "feels" less mid range than CS.

I always reset adaptations after a remap so you are starting from the same datum, maybe give it a few miles to settle in...

This gets me so hard, I might just go rub one out on my intake manifold.
