Dream Car Acquired!
I've been pining for the M2 since it was a rumor in 2014 / 2015...
My Father was a grey market dealer in the 80's and brought over some amazing machinery. Of all the incredible cars I was exposed to as a kid, BMW's dug into my heart more than any other brand. At 47, I'm finally in a position to realize my dream and pull the trigger on a new-to-me 2018 LCI M2. I pick up the car on December 6th. I've owned many BMW's over the years, but I've never called a M car my own. I'm so excited to get it that I'm having a hard time sleeping. It's going to be a long three weeks. I'm picking it up from the the original owner with barely over 20k. He's a great guy who had a kid, got a new job with a long commute, and just had to let go of it. He ordered it with 8K in M Performance parts from the Factory (not dealer installed) including the Performance Exhaust with Carbon Tips, Alcantara Wheel and interior bits, Black Kidney's, etc...etc... I'll daily drive it for a about 6 months before getting a commuter and then it will go in the garage for track days and weekend trips. So I ask you - the M2 owners, what should I know about it that I haven't already read or seen from Chris Harris hooning one out? I'm open to hearing about good and bad. What are the idiosyncrasies and things to keep an eye on, as well as great mods that keep it reliable? Super stoked to be back to my roots! (see old photo of me at 15 next to a 323i that my father imported in 1987, as well as me giving a friend a hot lap ride in my 135 on the track)

Congrats! These cars seem to be pretty reliable so far so I'd say just stick to basic/preventative maintenance. Also, no need to explain that it's not a Comp or CS - the OG and LCI models are amazing and sound way better than their newer counterparts! Enjoy your new car

I have an LCI since new. Great car. The only problem I have had is the intermittent right turn signal malfunction. From my thread on the subject, quite a few owners have had the same problem.
I love this car and plan on keeping it a long time. Congratulations on acquiring one. |

Welcome to the club!
The M2 is also a dream car for me. I was pretty ecstatic when I picked her up as I'm sure you are as well. In case you don't already know, check the charge pipe. It likes to crack under pressure occasionally. I replaced mine with an aftermarket one when I swapped the intercooler. For more noise, a sport cat downpipe is the winner. To appease the GF, I also removed ASD when I added the downpipe. I went with a 300 cell downpipe, reasoning here was to add more noise while keeping it reasonable. I see you're in La Crescenta! I'm usually up there on the weekends, GF lives there. We should hit up ACH together sometime....if I ever wake up early enough for the drive up. |

I didn't know about the charge pipe - good info. Which Charge Pipe did you end up going with? Also, I understood everything except for the ASD acronym...what's ASD? Would love to hit up ACH sometime! I have a buddy with a White M2 and livery stripes, we could make a caravan of it. I'm a bit booked until after the holidays, but going to be up there a lot come January.

The intercooler in the m2 doesn't really keep up with the aggressive tune if you will drive it hard. I'd consider a better intercooler and charge pipe as first mod.

Not a problem if you keep the M2 stock. Definitely need with a tune and track usage.

I went with ER (Evolutionary Racewerks) charge pipe, but honestly any aftermarket charge pipe will do. ASD = Active Sound D(something...something...I forget) It's a lil module that pipes fake engine noise through the speakers. You can really hear it in sport/sport+ but not as much in comfort. |

I actually like the Long Beach Blue...a lot, that was by choice. This car is exactly how I would've ordered it if I bought it new. But to each their own.

Congratulations, similarly I bought my first M car being the OG M2 lci this year. I've always been a fan of the brand since my first Bmw which was a 1991 E30 325i mtechnic. Loved that car and never found any modern BMW come close to it in terms of driving pleasure, that is until I drove the M2!
The first mod I did was coding out ASD which I highly recommend. All the best and enjoy your M2 in good health! |
