JB4 review

Only writing this as I never saw a review of the product.

Install was simple, the Map, Tmap and fuel mass sensors were easy to access. The OBD2 wire was ran via door jam for an easier install.

Up on initial startup I was disappointed to find out my firmware was old and required a laptop to access map2. Trying to utilize the gauges and BC button made the OEM dash have a seizure.

Support was helpful but I did wait 45 minutes before finding out it was a firmware issue requiring hooking up to a laptop. I was declined returning the unit unless I paid a restocking fee.

Once I got the device to map2 I was disappointed in the overall performance. While I never dynod the car I certainly feel like it gained more from my full exhaust and intake than added boost. The biggest complaint was how the car just fell on its face above 55k rpm. I dont see how this is adding 80hp as claimed.

Overall I wouldn't recommend it as it failed to deliver a "plug and play" install and for the trouble of connecting to a laptop a flash tune would have suited my needs bettter.

Everyone knows about the JB4. Just search here and on the M3/4 forum and you will see. The reason no one posts about it or talks about it anymore is because it cannot hold a candle to a full flash tune. A full flash tune addresses all the issues you have with the jb4.

At the end of the day a piggyback is a piggyback.

Welcome to the forum.

100% agree with OP. I also experienced problems with JB4 throwing CEL's and putting the car into limp mode, despite installation and use exactly per their instructions.

Would not recommend this product at all! Also be aware that Burger Motorsports does not offer product support over the phone, only email which can be a very slow process when troubleshooting problems with their products.

Something isn't hooked up correctly if you can't take a huge difference.

I bought a JB4 because of the DME being locked, and it is an immediate obvious difference. I also had some problems with the gauges. I updated to the newest version via bluetooth on my phone that their email support provided, and it isn't perfect still, but it is usable.

About half of the settings I want to adjust can be adjusted via the android app, so I have been doing that.

I should clarify, it felt more powerful at 3-4k rpm but the top end felt nothing like the 100hp claimed. I felt a larger bump going stock to full exhaust than I did with this.

Hook up all the connectors, go put 3-4 gallons of E85 in with 10 gallons of 93 octane and set it to map 2, you will spin stock tires in 1-3rd gear to redline.

No that's the thing, car makes plenty of midrange, spins tires no problem. Still feels like it falls short up top.

I guess I'm just used to NA engines and how they pull to redline

Neither does VRSF. I'd never buy anything from a vendor that doesn't offer phone support regardless of how inexpensive.
