M2 vs GT3

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
My son's friend picked up a 2015 GT3 this weekend and brought it over for me to drive. I love my M2, but the GT3 is supercar territory. The exhaust note is like no other - I'm already looking at the GT3 Touring

Well with a used price tag about 4x that of a used M2 I would certainly hope that it would be better in every way imaginable!

Beast of a car, I bet that was a joy to drive.

Funny you mention this - I bought both an M2C and 2019 GT3 Touring this year. That wasn't on purpose - it just worked out that way somehow. The Touring was almost 4x the price of the M2C.

I installed a Sharkwerks center exahust bypass and plugged the exhaust valves to stay open. Shifting a manual transmission at 9000 RPM while the car is screaming a high pitched bloody murder is unlike anything else out there. The motor is nothing short of exotic, IMO.

The M2C is a fantastic car and I love it, but the GT3 is another kind of experience completely. Total drama. Best car I've ever driven or owned - by a large margin.

Very happy with this combination, the M2 has Litchfield suspension and Apex wheels, both great. But as pointed out the GT3 is mechanically very special

count me in the group. Just sold my f80 and plan to purchase an f87c this week.

6 speed GT3 with the buckets and ceramics. had it 2 years. I also did a sharkwerks exhaust and unplugged the valves. the sound can't be beat. i even prefer it to my old 458 in the higher rpm.

going with the dct on the m2 this go around. the gt3 manual just has me spoiled, the f80 manual feel couldn't compare.

unless porsche makes a 4.5 flat 6 or does a flat-8. i dont think i will ever sell this car.

I have buckets too. Best seats ever. And they look awesome.

DCT is a good choice - it's not like PDK in that it's actually a terrible automatic transmission, but it's fun to use in manual mode. On my other 911s that had PDK, I hardly ever manually shifted.

The manual in the GT3 is a beautiful thing. I've heard the Numerical short shifter actually takes it to another level - I might do that one day.

Here's a friend's GT3 doing some lead/follow laps with me at Sebring. Love the sound inside that car!

M2, I’d imagine, is far easier to control at the absolute limit, without aids. Driven GT4s but not GT3s, so no personal experience behind that statement. GT3 in the hands of even mediocre drivers is like an HPDE cheat code. M2C is very competent in the hands of a moderate driver. I’ve passed many GT3s, but also been passed by some! All things equal between drivers, there’s no contest to be had.

This post is my entire auto passion rolled into one. For years I’ve been joking (praying, drooling) for a 911. Pretty much ANY 911 but I had the opportunity to get into a BMW and am not sad. However, I still dream of a 911 someday.

Where in the world did you come up with that estimate? Unless he's talking about the og m2 then I apologize but a m2c with 20-30k miles are still going for high 50s. A very clean 991.1 gt3 with 30k miles can be had in the 130s.

I didnt put much thought or research into the comment, I just know that new GT3s are like $250k or something crazy. No clue what used ones go for. Maybe I should have said sticker price or something. My point is that Gt3 way more expensive than M2.

Yeah the new 992 lightly used gt3 rn are well above sticker in the high 200s. I'm still kicking myself for passing on a MSRP allocation for the 992 gt3 that I was offered in the fall of 21 with delivery date last spring/summer.

I had to step back and look at priorities. I was happy with my f82 m4 at the time and elected instead to use that money and payoff my medschool loans first.
