Of course, that all goes back to how much BMW Canada knows what is going on. So far the answer has been a firm 'not much'. I would probably take the scientific wild-assed guesses on this forum over the official BMW Canada info at this point. |

Don't ask a dealer about included features in future production cars. Ask the people that produce the car.

This just might be the answer to the lack of skip buttons on the steering wheel. Drives me absolutely nuts that you need to reach to the console and that stupid scroll wheel is annoying. If you're able to setup gestures to skip tracks that would be amazing!

Again, just to be clear, touchscreen and motion gesture is only for the 5 Series and up. So even when the M2 gets iDrive 5.0, it will not have those features.

As far as I know all BMW models in total that have pro Nav will be getting their iDrive 5 from July 2016 builds.
Answer is the same on the F80/2/3 boards F30/1/2/3/ egc

It works by using wifi direct or miracast equivalent. It's not application specific, but rather simply mirrors and scales your phone's display to the iDrive's display. I'd imagine audio is included as well. There are a few 3rd party solutions for this feature already, but good to see it finally integrated natively without hacking required. Basically any app on your phone is now visible on iDrive. Not sure if touchpad can serve as a mouse. |

1) the firmware would have to be updated with a modified build date or the i-level would need special logic to allow older build dates to enable it. 2) you'd have to obtain new FSCs from BMW which are expensive. As of 5.0 there is a new FSC scheme so old codes don't work. It is doubtful that BMW would perform this software retrofit on any of their models, due to the PITA involved. It would set a new precedent for feature upgrades. It also would make buying a new car somewhat less compelling. Someone or some company may provide a way to do it, however. If so, it'll prob be available before August. |

Been reading through most of the threads here as I'm new to the forum.
Just to clarify, everyone is talking about July and previous MY2017 M2's correct? Speculating if it can be retrofitted? Probably was already covered, but I ordered my M2 MY2017 last Monday and the telephony option for $750 CAD included Apple Carplay specifically. Not sure if everyone already knows that or not. Old news to everyone? And from some of the posts, Carplay requires iDrive 5.0? Last edited by hshot_rooke; 06-28-2016 at 02:39 PM.. |
