Variable Light Distribution. Adjust low beam pattern based on speed. A feature found in other markets but excluded in the US.

More than you ever wanted to know about it on this thread https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...&highlight=VLD

Thank you. Only in expert mode? This afternoon I coded the M2C and I have not seen anything about VLC or black panel

VLD is stock in Europe? Sorry, I'm going to start reading

Variable Light Distribution (VLD) allows the light beam to adapt according to the speed of the vehicle. Essentially it lowers the headlight position at lower speeds and raises it at higher speeds.

If you have the adaptive headlights I believe so. The US has some ancient headlight/taillights regulations that keeps us from getting the these advanced features. Applies to all manufacturers not just BMW.

Thanks.
You can restore from a backup. I'm always worried I would lose my phone or something so I also hard copy write down what I changed as a backup.

No need to restore to factory just for a dealer visit - they really don’t care and it’s not going to void your warranty or anything like that...
I’ve had mine in a few times for regular service, and no one even mentioned it. They may not have even noticed anything different...

Just tried the latest app update on the M2C... and finally have the option to disable the gear shift indicator.

Only thing I do when going into the dealer is turn off auto-mirror folding since everybody notices it.

Ha, I was just going to chime in on this topic to disagree that they don't care and saw your post....I got an earful from my dealer after the tech noticed my mirrors fold in lol. They made a super big deal of it. Like...over the top ridiculous...I had the Sales rep, Tech and the Service advisor surround me in a room reading me the riot act lol.
Needless to say, I no longer take my car there....and would not buy another car there as a result.

Just got an app update yesterday. One of the updates had to do with "black panel instrument cluster coding"
Does anybody know what this does?

The kombi ecu used for the back panel display of the M2 LCI and M2 Competition. Before this update you had to use E-Sys to code the Kombi ecu. Now you can use Bimmercode to do this.

You need this if you want to disable the gear shift indicator for example

So, yesterday was my first time to code my car and to be honest, I have codded some really cool features to the car. However, when it comes to the welcome light, I have only managed to make the taillight and the number plate light soft on, I did not see an option to make the rings soft on as well. There was a setting only for the low, high beam and the fog light. Anyone had any success to make their rings soft on with the welcome light?

Just for a reference, this is what I mean -

I was wondering why I couldn't code my new cluster after the retrofit I did. Good to know I can do it now.

Only in OG M2, but not in LCI and M2C.

It is on my LCI. I remember following your thread about it and was curious why your M2C didn't have the option to turn it off

Indeed possible they removed it for the M2C only. Might also be its an EU thing.
