IMHO base M2 LCI keeps the N55. Also N55 hallmark sound recognizable in this test session video of September 2016. Likely testing different internals and setups.

Or it's simply registering all sorts of data for back-to-back comparison with the M2 CS test mule seen in this and this video (S55 sound) (thus no engine changes to the base M2 test mule - just gathering data to compare).

This I can agree with. They don't even need to make it limited then. This will sufficiently cull interest.

Why 'CSL'?

There has been a 3.0CSL Batmobile in the 70s. And an E46 M3 CSL overhere in 2005 ish. But after that the 'CSL' nomenclature hasn't been used anymore by M GmbH afaik?
E92 M3 GTS, M4 GTS. No CSL. But the recipe is the same I think.

So I don't see an M2'CSL' coming. Just the M2 CS(3-2018 SOP, I'm first on the list already for months lol) and .......later a limited M2 GTS(rumours)?

Cheers

I am just going with what SCOTT26 insider has been hinting at, where the "CSL" would be a top of the line evolution of the model line, pushing new technologies and body alterations like the CSL and 2002 Homage concepts. How this relates to CSLs of the past, I cannot tell.

I don't see the E92 and F82 GTSs as evolutions of the E46 CSL. Both the M3GTS and M4GTS are much more track focused than the M3CSL, losing much daily practicality in the process. For me the real evolution of the CSL was the E90 M3CRT, that kept all the DD practicality yet had many light weight components and most of the go-fast goodies of the GTS. Since it was a 4-door, they could not call it a "CSL" though.

That front lip is just the standard M-Performance lip for the M3/4.
The Spanish 2016 "M4 CS" (only 60 cars) stands for "M4 Competition Sport": comparable to the M4 ZCP though also comes stock with carbon ceramic brakes, a carbon wing on the back and various other carbon-fiber elements
Pretty much what I said...

Note: The ZCP is a designation only used in the US for the Competition Package. Hence why I call it "CP", which is a an internationally recognizable acronym for the Competition Package.

The CSL was just as track focused as the GTS. The CSL had or could have no air conditioning and no radio/nav, along with thinner rear windscreen glass, no rear seats, and PS Cup tires. It even had a "cardboard" type trunk floor to save weight iirc. The only thing the GTS has over it are the height adjustable coilovers. I can't really think of a less practical car to daily drive than a CSL; certainly it is less practical than a 911 GT3.

Yes. After you get it in writing that you're numero uno on the list.

How much did they want? I'm thinking maybe I could trade up.

I was initially set for an M2 allocation, but switched my deposit for the M2 CS.

I just put a grand down to get on the CS list.

Since there has been no official word from BMW yet, I assume dealers are not going to ask for big deposits right now...But it could depend on the dealer itself as well.

Maybe the "Z" in "ZCP" stands for "Zee" [use heavy German accent]: "Zee Competee-chown Peck-itch" (for zee Americans).

I'm more concerned with the pricing. If it's closer to $70k, I can go get a CPO 911 like I almost did with the M2 but if it's faster and more aggressive looking then I may like it better than my base M2 and "have it all". Plus I can build the car and get manual unlike my M2 that was a cancelled order and I took as is.

What I mean with "track focus" is the deletion of what makes it still practical as a daily driver, mainly the rear seats. I do not imply less competent on track. To me, a car that has a roll cage instead of rear seats is certainly more "track focused" than one that has usable rear seats.

I thought this was amusing. Just goes to show how much of these news articles are really BS sourced from this forum (and this thread, in this case).

Reference my post here:
