Exhaust valve actuator clip install

my clip broke off and im trying to install a new one but its not lining up with the actuator. I tried switching from comfort to sport mode and the actuator doesnt move...I also tried a different actuator. Is there anyway to recalibrate the actuator using ISTA+ or something else? many thanks!

I'm thinking a pic or two of 'the clip' would help explaining what you are talking about exactly, I think it is just open or closed (a 1 or a 0, ) kind of thing depending on what the engine or speed sensor is telling it (I'm talking about the OG/F87 here, the M2C has a different exhaust).

IIRC you may need to physically remove the actuator, install the spring clip, then twist the actuator slightly to line up the 3 bolt holes since the clip is always under some tension.

Here's a post with a few pictures that might help: https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show...8&postcount=26
And another: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/at...0&d=1617470455

So, the notches on the actuator and flap should be essentially parallel to each other. If you can't get them lined up by spinning the flap, it might be the actuator. See below.

Edit: Check this video out too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=zKg3K0tBAKk

Looks like this person's issue was with the actuator itself, possibly overstroked past where it should stop and snapped the clip. If you have bm3/bimmercode/bimmerlink you could try using that to exercise the actuator and make sure it's working correctly.

i ended up breaking my actuator because i tried to force it to line up. I ordered a new actuator will give it a try. It should actuate at idle switching from comfort to sport correct? My old one didnt do that..

Not necessarily. I know for a fact the exhaust flap on my car stayed open at idle regardless of drive mode, engine temp, etc. Not sure if there was an issue or if this was by design. I installed a CG Precision VSC-1 valve controller when I put on my Remus exhaust so I could open and close them whenever I wanted.
