Hey everyone,
Just trying to get a better perspective from everyone on getting different rear tire brand with lower tread wear.

I originally have firehawk Indy 500 which are 340 treadwear and the rears are pretty much done.
And I’m looking to get grippier tires maybe 240 treadwear with different brand.

What are everyone’s thoughts and if its bad I won’t be going with it.

I’d get Michelin pilot sport 4S for my Replacements in stock sizes and I would never mount those firehawk tires again they are seriously garbage by comparison

Surprisingly the Indy 500 were decent enough to get me to 8k miles with good amount of mountain driving. They weren’t as bad as I read some of the reviews. It’s just I want something with more grip on the rears until the fronts finally wear off and then I can replace them as well.

Another vote for Michelin PS4Ss. I got them in 255/35/19 and 275/35/19. (Those are M3 /4 sizes on the same wheels. No rubbing).

If you are going to mix tires, then yes, having the grippier tire on the rear is the safe way to do it. You will increase your propensity to understeer but it won't be unsafe. I would go with PS4S or some other long-wearing tire because if you replace the rears first, you will eventually end up with new front tires and worn rear tires which can be a bit of an adventure if the difference is large.

If you do a lot of mountain driving, try Yokohama Neova AD09, they are in 255/35/19 and 275/35/19, you will love them, not noisy, in wet they work great and are quite durable, they are also cheaper than Michelin ps4s, I would put all 4 at same time.
