But I guess it doesn't matter, manufacturers are going to rape us over the price because their tooling went up for 7 minutes.

Burn them all.
I'm a PhD-holding materials scientist who has studied inorganic and organic LED technology, so to interject with a little knowledge...

Manufacturers minimize heat production to the extent that they can, but heat generation and the phenomenon called droop cannot be avoided. When you run a higher current for more light output, a greater percentage of energy is dissipated as heat. It's a topic of intensive research efforts (in part because of interest for energy efficiency purposes for homes, street lights, etc.).

The small, dim LED you played with in class (from your previous post) is not the same technology ubiquitous today. Bright blue LEDs were invented in the 90s, and the researchers were awarded a Novel Prize recently. ( https://www.nobelprize.org/prizes/ph...press-release/ ). Subsequently, white LEDs were made with a phosphor coating.

High quality LEDs typically last longer than other technologies, hence you recoup your investment over time.

Just to interject with some facts versus conspiracy claims, as it seems these days anyone with a username wants to claim they are a special expert on the topic and opine, even if they have no knowledge.

Might be but I agree with him, I ain't got no PHD but do have a natural curiosity on the actual facts, over going off assumptions. I even break open OEM parts just to reverse-engineer it's makeup. Maybe look up what he's claiming yourself, before pigeonholing him into some psychological class..

One thing I could factually tell you is that LED quality varies based on load, heat and set coloring, there are a lot more variables at play to it's cost, than BMW is just greedy.

Trust me, I would be the first one to jump at their throats, had I suspect price-gorging but that's truly not the case, one major factor influencing the addition price, in modern LEDs is its kryptonite, heat buildup.

Really solid. On Hankook RS4s and after warming the tires up, the car has an incredible amount of grip. Let's just say taking onramps has never been so fun. I also feel like there's a lot more information being transmitted through the wheel now (might be placebo), steering definitely feels a lot better now and less vague. It's plenty fun, highly recommend it.

AAAAAANND back to the thread. I didn't take pictures, but I removed the wheels and cleaned off the caked brake dust, cleaned the calipers, and cleaned the hats of the rotors.

Removed this little bastard from my slave cylinder. Car seriously feels like a different car. It feels old school. Just like when I learned to drive stick in a Mk2 Jetta with a cable clutch. Just awesome.

What is that? A clutch delay valve?

Yeah! Clutch now directly responds to my foot.

The shifting is definitely weird... many times when I'm driving aggressively and shifting quick I feel the clutch is a tad behind my shifting speed and it doesn't go into gear easily... could this be the reason?

100% man. It's so damn vague with that valve. I had learned to drive mostly smoothly with it installed. Only now have I realized how much work I was doing to make it smooth.

Clayed, Polished, and re-applied coating after 2.5 years.

2 coats of CQuartz TiO2 + 1 coat of CQuartz Gliss

Paint looks and feels great. Hope it holds up for multiple years again this time.

Finally got round to fitting the F8x carbon/alloy brace. Just needs the rubber covers for shock top mounts to finish it off.

I still need to go on a proper drive. But steering does definitely feel more responsive

I cannot wait to see those on your M2 . . . I think that color will look great with LBB. . . to date, CoChris has the best wheels I have seen in combo with the LBB, and I think your 437s in what looks like brushed nickel will also look great.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I may sell them before they ever get put on, as I have other wheels coming as well.

But if they stay, I think they will look the business.

You sound like my wife . . . she goes shopping and when she gets home I ask her what she bought? As she is literally pulling the item out of the bag she is simultaneously saying, 'I am probably going to take it back.'

At any rate, just out of curiosity, are you going with the wheels CoChris has put on display with his LBB?

I don't think I've seen CoChris' wheels. Maybe you could show me.

I'm pretty settled on the Richland Forged wheels, they are like the 763M's, but ½" wider, and come in grey.
