Headlight washer jet not fully retracting
Hi guys,
I recently had my whole bumper repainted from a some small body/paint shop. The shop had good reviews, but he didn’t do good job fully matching the colour (AW). I had to bring the car back few times back to his shop because of the poor job. In the end I just got fed up with the service and just took the car back. I noticed today that the driver side washer jet was not fully retracting. In fact I was parked in the garage and was just testing whether both jets were working. I could hear the pump getting activated, but there was no liquid on the headlights either. There is no CEL either. I’m wondering whether there is a connection problem to the jets, or do the jets only spray when the car is moving? Also, any advice on what I can do to fix the retraction issue? I really don’t wanna bring the car back to the body shop, as it will be a bigger in the rear to deal with them. Many thanks. |

I didn't even know M2C had headlight washers. LOL. I just got the car.
Normally they don't activate every time you wash the windshield, but maybe every third time. Could that be the issue? |

The problem is not getting it to work. The jet doesn’t fully retract back flush to the bumper.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe the headlight washer jets are pushed out with water pressure against a spring which retracts them. I've had my bumper off to upgrade the FMIC and install a camera and to get the jets covers off, you just get a trim tool under the cover until you can pull it out with your hand enough to remove the covers. You'll feel the jet wanting to retract and it will shoot back in if you just let it go (there is no need to remove the covers if you disconnect the water lines from the back of the jets but that's a lesson learned).
I suspect the jet mechanism is not install correctly and is getting hung up on something. You should be able to get to it by removing the wheel well liner. If the passenger side is working, maybe remove the liner on both sides so you can see how it is supposed to be. You could probably do it with the wheels on but the easy way would be to remove the wheels. There is lots of delicate plastic clips back there so be careful.

good riddance. First thing I coded off. Nothing like having a freshly detailed car and then get a whole bunch of washer fluid sprayed all over the frontend.

Gotcha - wasn't trying to be combative but after re-reading my post I see how it could have come off that way. I never use the windshield sprayers at all because they cause a mess all over the car no matter what. If it's been freshly detailed, it would no longer be detailed

Another problem guys. I noticed today that the left jet in question, which I got to retract back properly actually isn’t spraying. I’m just not sure if it ever sprayed properly :-) I don’t know if the paint shop who put the bumper back missed a connection or something. I know most people don’t care about these jets, but I’m a bit OCD and want everything working 100%. Any suggestions?
Also, two days ago I got an error, “left turn signal not working”. It happens intermittently. My rear left light stops flashing and the front flashes very rapidly. Is it possible that some connection in the jet was loose and short circuited something. I really don’t know the anatomy of jets. The turn signal will be covered under warranty, but i don’t know if the dealership will complain that it happened because the bumper was taken off and hand me a massive bill. Any advice would be appreciated. |
