I also don't care about the carbon brakes. Less weight would be the silver lining. It had better not be too expensive or they will be collecting dust at dealerships.

Exactly! Looks like BMW will drop the weight by ~100lbs with CF hood, CF roof, CC brakes, 763M wheels etc, add 10HP and call it M2 CS. Can't wait to see the price tag on this

Forgot the fabric door pulls, easily worth another 5hp and $5k.

So what would it take for a CSL to have a similar reception to the old one...?
Full harness/buckets? Cage? Exposed carbon splitters?

I am guessing 981 GT4 money - aka, 85-90K USD.

Perhaps a bit cheaper if you forgo the ceramic brakes, not sure if that will be possible or not.

Although...if BMW learned any lessons from the pricing debacle for the M3/4 CS in the US, perhaps it won't be that bad. We shall see...

Another 10KG and $5K if they slide the udder can in half and just weld a piece of flat metal on the bottom in its place.

That's the key right there Unfortunately, I don't think BMW has learned any lessons. If they did, they would have priced the M3/M4 CS differently after the M4 GTS disaster.

Could it be a limited production run, for that very reason?

87 units worldwide, as a wave goodbye to the F87?

Was the GTS a disaster then? Why so?

The pricing of GTS was a disaster. At $130K, people expected a lot more than what it could deliver. Eventually dealers started offering steep discounts. I saw them go for as low as $95K brand new, never registered.

So it's a re-tuned M2 Comp with all of the CF parts in the BMW catalog.

Big $$$

The S58 is still undergoing development and will first debut in the next gen M3/4. The M2CS/CSL will just get a tuned up S55, plenty of head room left with the deturned S55 in the M2c now.

Definitely a reasonable guess...and not that exciting in the grand scheme of things. Perhaps if it were to get some additional engine treatment besides tuning (the water injection?) but that seems unlikely...or MPE standard - that would save a ton of weight as well.

I had guessed 85-90K USD earlier today - big money is right.

A little sometime to tide us over until the onslaught of next generation M2 variants..

Honestly, the most welcomed addition for me is the larger rear wheels; 500hp/tq to only the rear wheels is flirting with the edge of chassis' traction limit.
Same as the M3/4 CS. Has to do with the MT not being strong enough to handle the power.
