Fuel consumption.....zzzzzz
Hello,
Sorry to bore you all to tears, but considering trading in my 340i MPPSK for an M2C. I am doing pretty high miles at the moment, 17k+ a year, mix of motorway (highway) and town/city. And some fun stuff, obviously. Today I drove just motorway and I got 140 miles from 1/4 tank 20 litres. Longer distance like that I can get 370-420 miles from one tank. But averagely I get 280-350 miles from a tank. The overall MPG on the car says 24.6 at the moment, that is since I reset it in October, which is a mixture of all my driving. The 340 benefits from Eco mode, which is really good on longer journey with traffic, lets the car coast and uses a lot less fuel. And you can flick into comfort or sport when ever you need acceleration and then back to cruise in eco. Be interested to har what your average is with mixed driving and what you can get out of it if you drive it like an saint on a longer run. Normally I don't concern myself with these things, but it's a little out of my budget so just want to make sure I'm getting all my calculations right before I take the plunge. Thanks in advance, Nick |

I barely get 200 miles per tank......
A: the gas tank is small af. B: I get about 16 mpg mixed driving. To be fair, I have a 320i and I get around 300-350 miles per tank at 25mpg mixed driving. So either I'm an aggressive driver or I do a lot more city driving since I live in SF. |

This vehicle's motor has two high pressure fuel pumps, I sincerely doubt that gas mileage efficiency is its forte..

I don't even daily drive this car and I still have to gas it up every week. Its got a tiny tank, and there is no way in hell you will drive this car like a grandma. This engine loves high revs and there is just no way to drive it any other way. I havent calculated the mpg but the OBC says around 17 mpg? But my driving is all back road and never in Efficient mode, mostly Sport. If I were commuting in this car in Efficient mode, I may get better

Thanks for replies.
If I drive my 340i MPPSK hard, I get 15-18MPG and even in stop start traffic, it can show that on the onboard computer. But once it's on faster moving cruising speeds its actually quite good, which is why it's a great all around car for the road. It's just got a horrible chassis and not rewarding to drive, despite the great engine. The tank in the 3 series is 60 L at worst I get 280 miles from fast and city driving. So that is 4.6m per litre. But average, I probably get around 5.4m. I've just searched and it says 52 L for the M2C and at 200, you're getting 3.8m. So it's not a huge difference, given the power difference and general performance nature. I'm still curious to know if anyone ever drives theirs on a freeway cruising with the less aggressive modes and what fuel consumption you could get on a long journey I you wanted to keep fuel consumption down from time to time. Cheers, Nick |

Going from the 440i MPPSK to my M2 Comp in the same conditions/commute I used to get 25 mpg in the 440i, now I get 23 mpg. I don't think the fuel economy is too bad, it's mostly the small gas tank. I used to be able to go 3 weeks without filling (~340 miles) now I can only do two (~230 miles).

I traded in my 230i today in for my M2 C. The 230i could do about 340 miles to the tank in comfort mode with decently heavy foot in mixed driving conditions. Today i did 100 miles in the M2 C and used up a little under a half tank. And thats with Sport+ and me gunning the throttle every chance i get to hear that sweet exhaust. I expect once i get over the need to always hear my pops and gurgles, i'll probably end up seeing anywhere between 220-250 miles per tank. Roughly the same as my S2000.

After 11,500 miles of mostly metro driving, with a good amount of time spent on higher-speed back roads, plenty of time in heavy traffic, some highway driving (which involves highways with a lot slowdowns), I'm averaging nearly 19 mpg. That's with driving it like its meant to be driven. This is certainly the worst mileage I've gotten out of any car I've owned for decades, but not as bad as I was expecting it to be.

I picked up my car 17 days ago and have done 763 miles. In that time, the car came with a full tank of petrol, and I have put in my self -
12/02/20 - £63.78 15/02/20 - £59.64 20/02/20 - £55.53 Total = £178.95 So including the dealer tank around £240 ($309.68) in 17 days |

I agree, these cars are not purchased for their MPGs, but since you asked...
I am coming from a lifted and large off-road tired 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited where I averaged 15 MPG and it cost over $40 to fill the tank with 89 octane fuel. With my M2C I average right around 20 MPG and it only cost $25 to fill the tank with 93 octane fuel. So for me this car gets great mileage. I personally drive around in efficiency mode all the time and only switch to sport + when I want to play on a back road or with another car. If you drive normal and in efficiency mode you should get 20 or over MPG. You can see a very distinct drop in MPG when you switch over to Sport + mode. |

I'm getting 24.9 MPG on a mix of a and b roads in the uk. It gets sent on quite hard when traffic allows. The X5m is returning 20.9 as a comparison so it's quite thirsty for what it is. The tank is a pain as it's so small

Adding in case anyone in this thread isn't aware: "US gallons are different to the imperial gallon In the Americas, a gallon is equivalent to 128 fluid ounces or 3.785 liters (American spelling). But in the UK, it's 160 fluid ounces or 4.546 litres (British spelling)." |

When I noticed motorway with (highway) after I guessed the op was in the UK so thought it may be helpful as most of us m2c'ers seem to be us based and the gallon is different.

Decent amount of highway driving, but I can't keep my foot out of the gas. I average right around 20 consistently, 200-220 miles a tank.
If you grandma'd around all the time, left in eco, and never had any fun with it, I'm sure you could average 25 or more. |

I went from M240ix to M2C. With the same amount of effort to be efficient, the M2C uses about 1.33-1.5x the fuel that the M240ix used. With very little effort, the M2C uses a lot more while the B58s are somehow fuel efficient with a heavy foot.
Apologies for the litres and kilometres: Trying to be efficient (driving like a hypermiler): M240ix: 6-6.5L/100km M2C: 8-8.5L/100km Typical (driving the way I like): M240ix: 9.5L/100km M2C: 12.5-13.5L/100km Note that the M2C is MT and the M240ix was 8sp AT. |
