Somehow, per the salesman who will remain un-named, this was only a $5k markup...not sure he's doing his maths right

This is ridiculous. Here in the SD area the M2 is already at $62K due to the locale, you're better off getting a base M4, granted you can get a base M4 lol

These 150 cars could have been what was necessary to allow supply to meet demand in the United States and let people who want them actually buy one without waiting forever and then paying a premium for the privilege of just getting one.
now you get to look at one of these sitting on the showroom floor at your local dealer while you wait for your regular M2 ...

All I'd like to know is who is the target market for this M2 edition?

The real 'performance' M2 is coming and I can't help feeling like this M2 is designed to attract the guys who love ///M stripes more than actual performance gains.

Bro 1: Bro, we need more stripes.

Bro 2: Yeah bro, you're right - the doors, hood, roof, windshield and fenders aren't enough. How about the bumpers, interior trim, seats and trunk?

Bro 1: Good call bro!

Bro 2: Yeah bro, what else is a bro for bro?

The stupid in ///Marketing is strong.

sorry.. but most M2 buyers appear to be guys who love ///M stripes, or mirrors... or want more creature comforts than actual performance gains.

Sounds like these collector models in racing white will be more appreciated in about 5 years time.. #because race car...

I actually think that this is not a rip-off. If you were to add some of the m-performance parts on this car to the regular M2 with the DCT and the M drivers package, the car would go over 60K with the destination and handling.

The above price is without taking into account the coil over suspension, manual seats (I know these are cheaper), M-Performance Exhaust, Black side gills, illuminated door sill, Led door projections, Titanium exhaust tips etc.

Also, there are going to be just 150 of these. If the car really is around 50 lbs lighter and taking into account the exclusivity factor, a price of 61K is not that bad at all.

Just my opinion btw.

I agree as well actuially... My understanding is the M performance coiliover setup is on this car..
I don't think that most are factoring this in (because they don't want it and want a daily driver)

Haha, you might be right - I just haven't seen as many striped out M2s as I have M4s.

This just makes it cheaper and easier for BMW, while they're charging you more. I don't see any real exclusivity factor here, there's not much to be excited about, unless you're a fan of door projectors.

Breakdown of non M-performance accessories of this car

•Manually adjustable sport seats without heat or lumbar. The styling and upholstery is the same as other 2017 M2’s.

Basically the same manual seats offered standard in Europe without heat and lumbar (which you can actually add here in Europe)

• Basic keyless entry, without comfort access

How is this special? It's just Comfort access. All M2's have this as an optional

• Single zone automatic climate control

3 Pound weight reduction?

• HiFi audio system, in place of Harman Kardon audio.

Weight reduction + inferior HiFi system (if it's the standard f22 verson)

• Removal of the smoker’s package

1/2 pound weight reduction?

• Alpine White Base Colour

Cheapest colour out of the 4

• Addition of black mirror caps

Standard BSM mirrors, no M-style

BONUS
• LED door projectors with customer "Performance Edition" image

Does a rice bag come with this? What's the target market here? 12 year olds

• M Drivers Package

Wow, an unlock code for a meaningless 20km/h speed increase + An overpriced 101 racing workshop

Let's be serious here. This is all marketing bulls**t.
Agree with all of your post... however.. the M performance coilover setup does add some value to the vehicle for those that really want to take it to a track or make it a weekend car only.. if there are any M2 buyers out there that actually want to do so....

I was offered a M2 at MSRP in LA (it unfortunately had the M Drivers Package which I refuse to pay for as well). You have to press the dealers and tell them you aren't interested in paying over MSRP.

Let me know if you want to know which dealer
