I saw both an Atlantis Blue M3 and a Long Beach Blue X6M at our local Cars and Coffee. The Atlantis is even more stunning than LBB. That being said, I am ordering a LBB, 6 spd manual M2.

I think you're trying too hard to establish a straight line relationship between the two cars. At the same time you're ignoring some important information. An example is when you forecast the M2 will debut (reveal) in the same time and place as the 1M, i.e., January in Detroit. Frankly, that makes no sense because (1) Start of production is expected to be November and (2) Scott26 has said the car will debut this year.

I wish the M2 had some more aggressive rear flares.

The 1M flares makes it look sooo aggressive, its one of my favorite things about the car.

I think in terms of track width, the M2 will probably be wider than the 1M, but they're following more of the M4 style fender shaping, which results in a larger flare radius. To the eye, this makes it look less pronounced, even though it's the same or more.

You can see the same effect on the F80 M3 vs F82 M4. IMO, the flare on the F80 M3 looks better in person and in photos. The radius is tighter on the F80 because there's less room to work with.

It can debut in 2015 using a press release, and have its official public debut in Detroit. It really dependds on what you see as a "debut".

Production does not start in November unfortunately. The date has been removed from the computer, and in the end proved to be incorrect. At least that has become the main opinion across this forum. Just focus on the delivery dates of February for demo cars and March first customer cars.

Are you aware that the "computer" your referring to applied only to the US computers?
For your consideration: European production start remains November.

Then behind closed doors Seen that happen with many manufacturers. I prefer to focus on delivery dates, not production dates

production dates AND delivery dates for the M2 in Europe will likely be in advance of each for the US...

While I agree there are obvious similarities in how BMW is approaching the M2, I don't think it is entirely unreasonable to expect more from this car. Newer generation M car generally have definite advantages over their predecessors, why should this be any different? Whether it be additional weight savings, driving dynamics, color options, seats, ect, I would hope the additional R&D actually materializes into something tangible. M2 is obviously at the top of my list, but I hope the price and the product match up. This car just needs to be revealed already

I didn't ignore that. I simply think that I got a better information. And that means, that the M2 will be unveiled in Detroit. As M.R. said, a car can debut in 2015 but the official presentation can also be a bit later.

Every hint I got in the last two weeks interpret a debut at Detroit, thats why I put this information in there.

Furthermore the first M2's will be delivered to the customers in March/April 2016 (speaking for the european market, don't have a source for the US market).

The other reason I have a hard time with this is because Detroit is not a town in financial ascendency, shall we say. Here is a report of last years show: http://www.detroitnews.com/story/bus...roit/21768719/

Perhaps Chicago then? That's always in early February - it's the best Valentine's Day destination.

Meh. NAIAS is still one of the largest auto shows in the United States, regardless of Detroit's issues as a municipality and community. Not to say Chris Harris' views are invalid; they're just irrelevant as far as BMW's launch venue is concerned.

I think MR has really nailed it here. Just because the "debut" occurs an NAIAS doesn't mean we won't see the car sooner. Kind of like the "grand opening" of a store that has been open to the public for months.
