According to this article and chariman of the board at BMW M GmbH, Friedrich Nitschke, the M2 will be powered by an all new engine codenamed S57 B30 and will produce 400hp. According to him, that's the "magic number". This contradicts what we've been hearing all along doesn't it? Which engine will it be?

Finally! Looks awesome.
Could anyone PS out the spoiler and hood vents?
I hope it has the comp pack wheels but I know it won't.

Whoa! That would be amazing if this were the case. I was wondering why they're using an engine as old as the N55 on a car that's going to be released in 2016.

Doubt the hood would make it to production, same for the rear wing.

Not a fan of the tear duct area of the head lights. Otherwise, if they drop the weight that hurts the M235i and not just up the power, we'll have a real winner with this car.

As our resident guru said, that makes no sense at all. That would make it a diesel. If the car was really going to push out 20 hp less than the M3/4, why come out with a brand new engine for it?

That article (aka the Autocar article) is garbage IMHO.

I dig the hood, but I think that's a liberal amount of creative license you've taken. CF roof would be nice, but I doubt that will come over, if history from the 1M is any indication. Doubt the carbon brakes will make it over, either.

And that trunk wing...

400hp is too much. Need more spacing to set apart from big brother.

I'd rather have less weight and enough HP. Anything over 360hp on a turbo motor will be plenty to feel fast.

I'll take 375 hp and the CF roof over 400 hp and no CF roof. Yeah I know CF is a wish. And 25 extra HP would more than cover the weight difference. But damn the CF on the M4 looks sweet.

+1. That article is so full of crap that my computer screen smells bad every time I start reading it.

Also, I like the hood vents, but something tells me that it would look even better without them... or with e92 m3 vents... I just need to wait for someone with photoshop skills to do this haha.

But damn, man. This car is going to look killer.

Every time I see a M235i in person, it reminds me how this car is done NO justice in photos. Pictures make it look porky. In person, it looks sleek, wide, classy, and fast.

This M2 is going to be sex on wheels.

I don't get why so many people feel that the M2 won't get the carbon fiber roof because of the M3 and M4.Even the new BMW i3 comes with a carbon fiber roof.

One of BMW's goals for the M2 is to get the weight down and carbon fiber is a great way to achieve that.

The M2 will definitely come with a carbon fiber roof IMO.

Please send rendering to BMW. Was at the dealership today and this rendering BLOWS AWAY anything on the lot - including the styling of the M4 I test drove. BMW can potentially hit a grand slam here if they further dial-in electric steering, lighten it a bit, and equip with 375 plus HP/Torque and LSD

Exactly. I think the M235i looks even better in person, so I can already imagine how ridiculous the M2 is going to look with puffed up fenders and flares, quads and hopefully CF roof.

Pretty amazing how positive the reaction has been to this car. I really do think BMW has an absolute killer on their hands. Take my money NOW.
