M2 comp for me because I would take it to a track and enjoy it. At the end of the day it is a real M car.

Depends on what you are looking for. If you want a great performing 2-seat convertible, the Z4 is a good choice - has nothing to do with being a real ///M. That's part of the ///M snobbery.

For me, I have my M4 and a Z4 M40i on the boat headed this way. They each serve a different purpose.

I just drove the Z4 30i for the first time today and the M2C for the third time.

There's no comparison that [power aside] the M2 is a more engaging driver's car. BUT, the Z4, even in 30i spec, was better than I expected. I think some reviews have been harsh on the Z4. Aside from the steering, which is direct but totally numb and not weighted enough, the car has all the right stuff to be a good driver's car. The top down experience under the LA sun made the drive even more enjoyable. It's just missing that secret sauce (steering calibration) that the M2 has.

I'm sure the M40i will be a blast if you can live with the steering.

I too was thinking between these two cars. I am a huge fan of the old M Couple and always wanted a Z because of that. And while the Z4m40 is a great performance car and would be a lot of fun, the M2 just reminds me too much of the M coupe and I had to have it. The M2 is also a much different animal driving wise and there really is no comparison between the two. If you want a sporty rag top cruiser then the Z is for you. You want 100% engaged driving at all times, then the M2C is for you. Different cars for different purposes imo. I was also not too thrilled with the looks of the new Z, and the M2 just speaks to me with that wide rear body and fenders

Saw a red z m40i at work yesterday. Looks really good. So that's the difference. Do you want to look really good or feel really good ?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder though. The Z looks kinda "meh" to me. I think when something is a 2-seater it kind of has to be held to a higher standard, looks wise. It's certainly not a bad looking car, but it doesn't look special to me either. Honestly many will think i'm crazy, but I much prefer the look of the Supra to the Z.

The M2 does that great thing where it doesn't scream "look at me" yet when you do stop and give it a nice long look, you start noticing just how damn aggressive it is.

100% agree. The M2 is stunning especially when you give it a close walk around, otherwise it probably doesn't attract too much attention. I too was disappointed in the new Z. I was considering that car and waiting for its release, but its just very meh to look at. Even the headlights dont say BMW, and the nicest part is the rear end. I think the M2 does it all.

I don't see how I could compare a 2 seater convertible with a 4 seater coupe. They are built for completely different audiences.

M2 because last night using sport plus/MDM I grinned ear to ear when my rear tires started dancing.

Some people are choosing an M2C or Z4 as their fun car. So I can definitely see the comparison and I too compared both. Honestly, I switch my preference daily, but for something fun, I wanted a manual gearbox and the M2 is the only one that delivers.

Resale Value > M2

The M2 would certainly retain its value over the Z.

.
My wife however would want the Z -- so that would over rule any logical thinking.
