My wife and I both agreed on the mineral gray, but she was insistent that we get the moon roof... now that I have the car, I'm glad I added it!
Just got my M2 yesterday, and went for a couple hour drive this morning... what a blast! |

The only strange thing I noticed when I first drove my car is the rear diff grinding. It wasn't that loud, kind of a slight noise when slowing down. I did a search and found this is a common thing with this car. I don't notice it anymore, especially after the 1200 mile service.

The stick is gonna wiggle, it's coming right out of the top of the transmission. No cable-actuated garbage like most FWD cars.
If you are feeling shudder, either give it more gas, or leave the gas alone entirely. The car will actually feed throttle to prevent you from stalling. If you are trying to feed throttle yourself, you override the car, and if you're not feeding quite enough, it will shudder or be jerky. Give it a little more gas.

My car - a few dozen miles short of 1200 now - was smooth since delivery (2 miles) - engine, clutch, shifter; I agree with others that this doesn't sound normal.
It was the same deal for my previous bimmer - 335i (also with an N55) - it too was smooth as butter from jump - both the exact opposite of my old 2008 G35 sedan, which was impossible to drive smoothly due to an absolutely evil clutch. Keep hounding the dealer about it, and keep us posted.

Thank all for the advice. I will wait for a few more miles.
Now I just have to VO code in some features the Canadian car does not come with!

Idle is ok for me, but this is totally subjective depending on what you compare to. Clutch chatter--are you sure you aren't hearing the throwout bearing or are we talking full on chatter? If the latter, then no that's not normal. The vibration in the gearshift is somewhat normal.
As for the crunch sound from the diff when setting off, no I'd definitely get that checked by the dealer ASAP and not put more km's on it. Note here and just a general note to everyone. M diffs are noisy. Not in the sense of gear whine but more in the sense of clunks and bumps. They've always been like this.

ZPrime, I picked up a 2018 on Sat and believe the shifter “shake” is more than I expected. On my Z4MC it sits rock solid (more or less). I am planning to install Rogue Engineering’s trans mounts to see if it helps. Maybe BMW softened the mounts on this car.

My clutch chatter is obnoxiously frustrating after any 15+ min drive in stop and go. It slips, shudders and downright impossible to keep smooth. The first 15 mins of the drive are beautiful. I've been battling with my dealer for over a year, it doesn't act up on cold or wet days, it's heat-related and not always reproduce-able
Picking the battle back up this spring. It is one of the best cars available right now, but this point is nearly driving me away from the brand if they continue to call this "acceptable behavior". I spent last weekend with an Alfa dealer |

I have found that the biggest issue for me is the throttle mapping in comfort mode. As I stated above. The car runs lumpy under power and the clutch can't handle it. I Sport mode it seems pretty good though. I only have 300kms on the clock so time will tell.

So have the cars entire inside ripped out and can hear all the noises back there very clearly. Shit that exhaust is noisy round town!
The grinding noise that sounds like it comes from the diff only happens when I release the clutch with some power say 2500rpm. This is pretty loud. sounds like there is a clutch on the diff. This does not happen under acceleration. Only when using the clutch. Any thoughts anyone. Asked the dealer they are looking into it.

I don't mean any disrespect, but how much MT driving do you have under your belt? I think I know what you're talking about. I bought an 06 330i with MT brand new back in the day and I struggled to get smooth starts for a while until I learned how to do it in that car and it became natural. The car I had in between was an m235 with 8AT. Now I'm back with a BMW MT with my new M2 (just got it last week). The clutch is quite similar to that 330i and I can start very smoothly. So I say it's probably just how the BMW clutch is and you're not used to it. Give it some time. Use more gas or slow down your clutch release. A clue is that you're saying that starting in Sports+ is easier. It's easier because the engine is getting more gas, so a faster clutch release is working in this case.

MT experience? I learned to drive on a Austin 1100. Had 20 car (including 5 MINI's) none were auto except a 69 Mustang. I have probably driven at least 1,000,000 miles - all MT. So I know MT transmissions. I also know Dual Mass flywheels and the way you can burn a clutch very easily compared to the older clutches. I've raced bikes , rebuild as least 20 engines and pull cars apart for fun. I love these things. I appreciate that all car have their little weird things they do...but BMW's are not Italian they are German and although I have never owned a BMW I have drive many and as stated above had 5 BMW MINIs. None of the clutches on any car I have ever had have behaved like this. That is why I am asking questions and trying to understand. Yes the difference between Comfort and Sport is the electric angle of the throttle response. On one of my MINI's (that use exactly the same system) the peddle windings were damaged and it did not respond properly in normal mode but was fine in sport because it "jumped" over the problem area with the more aggressive response. I personally like everything about Sport + except the accelerator response. I prefer comfort mode even when driving fast. I appreciate your advice and will give it some time but am pretty sure that something is off for a car like this.

My engine at idle did similar things during run-in period. After run-in service I had it only once at cold start, way better now. They flash the car software after run-in service (I am sure about it as they leave a sticker in the car stating that all previously set feautures might be deleted and it was) and the car was better especially first drive after cold start and better shifts in Comfort mode.
