Oh great, instead of waiting a second - the same amount of time to get a notchy MT into gear on cold startup - I have to press and hold a button for 5 seconds to defeat auto-blip
BMW manual is garbage in the sports car realm, bad enough I opt’ed for a non-manual in a sports car for the first time in 18 years God forbids if someone could ask a technical question about DCT without some I-am-holier-than-thou snob telling them to get a manual instead

Back to the OP's question - I think this is a common delay in DCTs, generally speaking. I have a small garage, so I have to maneuver the F80 around quite a bit to get it where it needs to be. There have been times when shifting from reverse back to drive that the transmission goes into neutral, or the engine just dies. That's happened ~5 times since I got the car.
So I would say that the slight delay is just a characteristic of the transmission, or at least mine seems to do similar things.

meas·ure (meZHər)/verb -a standard unit used to express the size, amount, or degree of something.
Shifting Efficiency/0-60: DCT wins Fuel Efficiency: DCT wins Now, you manual transmission dinosaurs can pop into every DCT thread on this board with your tiny little shifting knobs, like you've managed to do, and espouse the greatness of the manual's engagement, yada yada yada with your visceral experience BS. But the truth is that the DCT beats the MT in every measurable category and I get it, sometimes the truth hurts. Sorry, grab a band aid and stay out of DCT threads. |

.. By every measure, a microwave oven is better than a range! Cooking efficiency.. 0-160 degrees : Microwave Wins!! Energy efficiency ! BTU - Microwave Wins! And I don't want to hear anyone tell me anything about espousing the greatness of taste or flavor... cuz they can't be measured !! Sometimes the truth hurts.. |

Seriously, the way some of you wankers act over this, it's like someone insulted the size of your genitals...
They both have their merits. This is now my second 6mt in a row and sometimes I regret not going for DCT, especially since the car is doing half the work for me anyway. OTOH, I did get bored as hell sometimes when I had a dual-clutch car and my left leg often wanted something to do. But I also never had to worry about clutch wear or a blown shift, and I could teach my left foot to brake at HPDEs. They both have their place. If I could have both, I honestly would (and I'd switch back and forth depending on my mood).

I have the same issue and another more distubing one.
I have noticed that lag going into revers even after letting it warm up for a little while in park. I figured this was just normal. I then had a very disturbing incident while pulling out into traffic before it was completely warmed up. I had it in Sport D mode and pulled out into traffic. First gear was fine and when it went to shift into second gear the engine just reved and the transmission didn't grab the gear which is really worrying. I dumped the gas and it caught but this could be really bad if it happens at the wrong time. I talked to the service department and they didn't seem that worried. They said the software update "might fix it" but were unable to provide any reassurance beyond "maybe". Anyone else have any experiences like this?

I haven't noticed any lag, but then again I haven't been in a situation where I needed a lightning fast R-1 or 1-R change. It takes the same amount of time for me to K turn in my DCT M2 as it does in my 6MT M5.
