Awron display for BMW M2 Coupe - Full process

Over the past few days I have received my Awron display and I decided to make some photos and share with you the installation and capabilities of the display over the coming weeks.

Hereby the first photos after I opened the shipping package. This unit will replace the current center airconditioning vent unit that is placed in the center console. You can see the Awron display in the left air vent.

If you would like to know more about the features of the Awron display, please check this link: http://www.awron-shop.de/shop/en/awr.../f2xdga?c=1393

I will share my thoughts after it is installed next week by Manhart Performance in Germany.

Any chance we can have their displays without losing an ac vent?

I'm considering as well, but not 100% sure yet. There's another solution available that goes in the vent to the left of the steering wheel from p3cars.com - bit cheaper too.

Trust me I would choose the awron over the p3 any day. You won't miss the vent, the other vents will blow stronger and it really is the perfect location. I loved my awron, was very sad to let it go due to incompatibility with jb4. The steering wheel control is awesome, it all looks and feels very oem.

Thanks Luminous. Definitely a first choice for the Awron, but it's a grand landed in Canada so just want to think it through.

Yup but the P3 Cars goes into the ODB so you always have a cable in the ODB. The Awron is connected on the CAN bus and behind the dashboard. Slightly different setup.

Also the Awron offers delete-r if you drive catless and has a remote valve option for your aftermarket exhaust. Other thing is that the Awron is controlled via the steering wheel buttons of the limiter/cruise control (when not engaged), and the P3Cars is controlled using buttons on the display.

All little differences. Of course the P3 Cars is cheaper, but offers less features. In the end it is what you need. I will have a P3 Cars in my upcoming MINI.

We have the AWRON in our M2 and it's proven to be extremely useful. We have the version with the exhaust valve controller and the Delete-R. If anyone has any questions about the gauge please feel free to contact me. We have a few on order to stock stateside as we fully believe in the product.

Fully agree with it! Wonderful piece of kit. Go for it if you are a geek and want to follow all the technical details of the car.

Next step was today, the installation at Manhart Performance in Wuppertal, and before you start to ask me. No, their M2 was not around, else I would now have written a review :P

The installation was about an hour work. The main installation consists of removing the center air vent in the dashboard and removing some of the panels at the passenger side. About three panels are removed, and the battery is disconnected. The one underneath the glovebox, the one panel near the door and the plastic doorsill panels.

The Awron display comes with a cable that includes an USB for ODB connection to a laptop. I am wondering if I can code my car with it I need to test that before buying another cable to start coding the features of the car. The cable is the connection between the display in the air vent and the CAN bus connector which is placed on the side panel under the glove box / door hinge.

The connection is quite simple and follows easily via the manual supplied by Awron on their website. Not too difficult to fit! After the cable and the connector are properly connected, all is placed behind the panels and the air vent is pushed into place. Reconnect the battery, and start up the car.

Now you can scroll through the menus of your Awron display using the left toggle on the steering wheel. The features are mentioned on the link given above and on my final run through Germany I got the chance to really use the boost, horsepower and torque screens. Managed to touch 366 hp and 493 Nm on full throttle on the autobahn. Funky tool! I must say.

I have not used all the features yet and I need to do some settings setup, but all in all it works brilliantly. Below you will find some photos showing the different steps of the installation.

David any way of hardwiring the Awron gauge rather than using the OBDii? I plan on getting the JB4 that connects via OBDii as well.. Thanks!

The AWRON gauge that we're using is hardwired directly in to the footwell module. However, I don't think any of the AWRON gauges are compatible with the JB4. They fight each other for canbus control and end up causing interference.

Any idea if the P3 gauge would be the same thing? I would probably assume so since that would be looking for canbus as well

How thick is it? I wonder if it could be custom molded into another location. I like it but no way I'm losing a vent. Its hotter than 4 hells 'round here 5 months outta the year.
