The aluminum bracket for for the RACE9 batteries is ~$69 USD, while the base mount (plus hardware? Minus the SAE terminal kit) is ~$44 USD. Honestly, it seems that if you have a 3D printer you could print the ABS baseplate for a few dollars in material. Also, I'm not convinced the aluminum bracket is necessary if you can leverage the stock battery lock to hold the battery down, especially since the battery is so light.
I'm tempted to order the RESTART9 battery, but since my stock battery seems pretty healthy, it feels like a bit of a waste so I might wait a bit. But I'll definitely post the STL file when I do (if someone hasn't already put one up!) |

Lithiumax Battery
I have spoken with the team at Lithiumax and the Restart 9 batteries are 24 Ah lithium nominal or 68 Ah if comparing it to the standard AGM battery. This is about 2/3rds the OEM battery capacity, so not too bad for a 16-18kg weight advantage

Following up, my long E50 cranks and another winter have my nearly 7-yr old factory battery sounding pretty sad on startup.
The Lithiumax batteries are now more expensive and shipping costs to the US are higher, plus the need to buy the OEM bracket bracing vs Antigravity's drop in fit had me looking more into AG this time. Then, I found a good deal on the 40Ah AG battery at $635 shipped and pulled the trigger. So, I'm coming back around to the question of how would you guys register the battery once installed? Thanks! Let us know how the 40Ah battery works. I was thinking of the 60Ah myself. |

First code the battery to the nearest AH rating, then register it. So you'll need a coding tool (esys or something similar) and something to register it (ISTA or something to register it). |

Altho, 60Ah looked like the lowest setting in ScanTool, so I wonder if I should step up from the 40Ah battery for proper charging by the car? |

BimmerLink would let you register the battery but I think you'd need to use BimmerCode to code for the different capacity. But I don't know off hand what options exist in BimmerCode for the M2, I can check if it'd help anyone.
(I haven't used either tool on my M2, I have used BimmerLink to register a battery on a 1 series but capacity was like-for-like). |
