2020 M2 Comp DME unlock journey.

Wow what a pain in the butt getting these newer DME's to unlock/flash. Miss how easy it was to flash my 19 m2 comp, this 2020 is fighting me every step of the way. While we removed the dme which was fun, then had a local tuner unlock the DME now I'm up to the point of flashing but its requesting a force flash. Not finding much on the subject when searching and have a message into BM3 already, though was curious if this is the norm regarding "force flashing" when one has a DME unlocked? Assuming it will brick if there is an issue Anyone else know more on this or have done similar?

Update: BM3 has some great customer service. They walked me through it, flashed our 2020 M2 Comp with stage 1 93 file.

Try about 2-3 gallons of E85 and try it again… I’d be curious if it improves.

Thinking the same. Wondering if it can yield better 60-130's with different shifting rpm's, been leaving it in auto after shifting manual into 3rd. Would be tits if she can get in the 8's with a splash of E85 and some nicer weather.

Hell yeah!! I’m not too far behind you… trying to get this car sorted out. Purchased it used with 4k miles on it, already had a lot of warranty work done. Once I feel it’s “safe” to move on, I’ll do exactly as you’ve done here. Baseline, 93 tune, then I’ll try a couple gallons of E85… then onto a stage 2 E85 tune.

My wife’s X3MC was a beast on an E30 tune. So I know these lil cars respond well to better fuel for sure! Good luck, keep us posted.

Do you have any Dragy data to show us your 60-130’s?

Hey man, I'm actually European so all I can give you is 100-200 kph 😬 I've measured 9,52 as a manual and 100% stock.

That's boring, I know.
A good friend tunes a lot of BMWs, specially the S5x platform, and you can check his Instagram for 100-200 with stage 1 and 2 (with ethanol, too). Stock turbos go as low as sub6 100-200 (sub 6,5 60-130mph). Check it out at @prospoolfreaks

This makes sense or at least it feels like it drags on waiting to shift in automatic mode up to 7300ish (not sure what it shifts at actually). Will attempt to manual shift lower in the RPM range. There has to be a thread on this subject.

Thank you sir! It's an 2019. Alpine White, loaded up... Pretty cool little car so far.
It's nice talking to like minded people on here, that's for sure. I came from the Porsche and Mclaren world, and there are some pretty cool guys on those forums as well, so it was nice to see some on here too.

Congrats on your latest M2C as well. I look forward to seeing what you do with it moving forward. If you decide to do downpipes, are you thinking catted or catless versions? I'm leaning towards doing catted and HOPE I can still pass my emissions test each year... I don't want the hassle of doing a hat dance to get it to pass, I'm too old for that crap anymore! HaHa!!

The performance stuff seems pretty easy and straight forward, my biggest concern is the condition of the motor even though mine has had 2 oil services done I've found some flakes in the oil filter. There are others with s55 noticing similar metals showing up. Not that I want to share you or anything, but do check even with low miles like yours has, prior doing some mods might be worth it.

I appreciate that. I actually had the dreaded ticking sound found on another thread… I used their info and an awesome guys help to get all my lifters replaced, as well as all the supporting components replaced under warranty. Car is smooth as silk now, zero noise. While they were in there, they thoroughly checked everything else as well. I’ve got one more year of factory warranty left, and I have an extended warranty as well good until 75k miles. I haven’t ever made it that long without modding a car yet. Haha!

Crazy, one would think these s55's are/were bullet proof after all these years. Didn't read about the tick/lifter, wondering if that is a thing as well. Anyway the s55 bearings seem to be something the community is keeping an eye on these days since the oil has a lot of color / metal flacks people are reporting. Moving forward, going to keep an eye on my filter and oil, will be doing another oil change at 1k miles this time around, also ordered DP's for stage 2 93 file

Which downpipes did you end up ordering? I hadn't heard about the bearing issues either... I thought that was on the old M engines, not the S55's? Excited to hear about your plans thus far too, keep us posted as soon as you get the new DP's and stage 2 tune installed.

Was going to just flash stage 2 93 file on stock exhaust since others have done it prior but said the heck with it and ordered the CTS catted ones. On my last M2C I went with a resonated DP, then added the AA single mid pipe. Ended up removing the mid pipe since I didn't like the sounds and kept the resonated dp on. No difference in performance from what I remember. Hopefully the CTS dp's are pretty good.

I appreciate your feedback! See, I'm trying to figure out of I can flash a stage 2 with a mid-pipe vs being forced to use aftermarket dp's? I've been told is isn't wise, or feasible to flash stage 2 without swapping out the stock dp's because the back pressure is too great. It'll either blow out your cats, or make the car run too hot. As I had already told you, I'm pretty new to the BMW platform, so I'm still learning to do's and do not's for this car.

Safest for the turbos is most liked cat-less or resonated Dp's but personally I dislike any added smells. Even though the secondary's do a good jot helping remove some of it. Aside from smell I dislike rasp hence high flow cats are going in lol.

And to add to that, I don't want to deal with doing a hat dance every year to get my car inspected... I'm told these cars will not pass an emission test with hatless, or even some catted down pipes. I'm getting too old to be trying to balance a fast/fun car vs a fast(ish) car with no issues getting it inspected each year.

Incidentally, I did speak to AA today, and they recommended a resonated mid-pipe as opposed to their none resonated version if I weren't doing catless dp's. So I'm on the fence on which direction to go currently.

Really? in Texas there is regulations for emissions, i'm sorry to hear that.

Having had the single pipe AA mid, i want to leave on the stock mids with a high flow dp for now. Only way i'm switching to AA mid's if they come out with a version that has larger resonators, the ones on that thing aren't do squat imho.

Said the heck with it and flashed stage 2 93 file today as I await till the dp’s arrive. Wow bm3 must have revised their ots files, so much easier to drive in sports+ than I remember from my 2019 m2 comp. Stage 2 power just feels so right some say stage 1 but I say stage 2 hands down 💪🏼
