Passenger Front Seat Belt Warning

When I put packages on my passenger front seat the Fasten Seat Belt warning goes on. Is there a way to shut it off because no one is in the passenger seat?

Put the packages in the trunk or on the floor. ;-)

Happens when you toss your iPad or a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel on the seat too! Buckle the belt.

Happens with my iphone on the front passenger seat, picked up a ExactFit magnetic phone mount for a fix lol. One of my rear seats has a booster seat that is not buckled unless my son is in it and it does not throw a warning when unbuckled.

There is no monitoring of rear seats.

Code the seat warning down to 5 seconds..

I'm sure that's a compromise you can live with..

It’s Bimmercode.
No way to disable it via iDrive.

Yes this happens on all modern BMWs, the sensors are very sensitive.
Buckle the seatbelt, or code it out, or don't put anything on the seat.

Do you leave your cell phone on the passenger seat while driving?
Mine used to go off too when I put my wallet and cell phone on there.
Had to disable it thru Bimmercode.

Since I read this post, it made me realize I put my backpack on my passenger seat every day while commuting back and forth to work. On Mondays it is very heavy due to all the bottled water I bring in for the week. My passenger seat belt warning has never gone off?

I know it works because it went off one time when my wife unbuckled her seatbelt as we were pulling up to the garage.

Sensitivity seems to vary. Mine won’t go off with a lightweight bag or jacket but if I load it up a bit more it will chime. I reckon about 5kg is the threshold. It sure won’t go off with just the weight of a phone.
