I agree. I am buying the m2 to keep it forever so any price fluctuations in either way don't bother me

This group on the forums is not an accurate representation of BMW M buyers as a whole. Some may want the M2 over the M3/4 but most want the amenities the M2 does not offer (moon roof, CF roof, different interior options, more color options, HUD, more power from the factory, ect.) The major thing going for the M2 is the pricing. You also have to take into consideration that the used M3/4s will be around the same price as a new M2 at the time, so many spending around the $50-55K may find more value going that route. Worst comes to worst I will go ED, but if it is relatively easy to pick up an M2 for less than MSRP more than a year after its initiation then its safe to say private sales will adjust appropriately. So really comes down to how easy it will be to buy one new, guess we will find out.
All of this seems much ado about nothing. The msrp for the M2 is very fair. It's going to be in high demand. It likely will hold its value reasonably well. So depreciation? Let's not split hairs. Gads, the car hasn't even hit the showroom floor yet.

If you plan to keep the car, not an issue. I paid $35k for my M3, brand new, on delivery in early 12/1994, 21 years ago. It's still humming along with 90k miles on the clock. I believe I got my money's worth, even if it were worth $0 today, which it isn't.

That gives you an idea of M3 depreciation trends. I don't think the M2 will fall as fast given the lower priced starting point, but we can't assume it's going to be like the 1M.

Also, check out the M4 residual values. I don't know how close to market these figure are, but it's what BMW uses.

57% at 3 year

43% at 4 year

35% at 5 year

Would be interesting to see what BMW's 3-year residual will be for the M2.

Of course. Which means you'll keep it until you find something that's way more exciting than that M2.

Till death do us part, or something hotter comes along.

I will def add another m car and the m2 will become the daily. But I will still keep it forever. The only reason why I don't have the e92 is because it was totaled. There will always be something new and or better
